    Hi friends,

I saw this question on another site...and was wondering the same thing.

If you have website pages with similar content, it is advisable to insert the canonical tag in each similar page that refers to the page you want the search engines to list as the preferred page....i got that.

NOW if i have a website that has a catagory and numerous goods on a page...and you want to webcrawlers to find and give credit for each page...where would i put the tag so that each page is ranked "above the main page" of the catagory?

Is this possible...or am i missing something?

    thanks

Canonical tag can work either of the following ways:
    1. the original page points to itself, while the copied ones dont have a rel=canonical tag
    2. all copied pages point to the original, and the original page doesn't have a rel=canonical tag

given than, you can put a rel=canonical tag on each unique page you wanna consider as unique & original.

The canonical tag is a piece of HTML code which can be placed on duplicate pages to indicate to a search engine where the original version of that page is.The canonical tag can be an ideal candidate in a couple of scenarios, both of which revolve around duplicate content. The first is where you have lots of internal duplicate content. The second scenario where you may want to implement it is on a page by page basis and utilize its ability to work across domains.
