What is the best way to treat canonical version of a URL (www vs non-www)?

Is putting the rel-canonical tags in the header good enough?

I just put the redirect in the .htaccess file to prevent duplicate content and canocialized it respectively with in the header tags.

    Zee007,

Yes the rel="canonical" tag is fine and it doesn't matter whether you use www or non-www as the canonical version as long as you let search engines know which URL should be indexed.

    Best,

Canonical works, but no need in that case... Just redirect all non-www to www...
