Canonical Tag for duplicate content

Hi guys,
I have a directory in my website with many categories, that means a lot of listings to add
The problem is that it takes a long time to create unique content about every listing, and for that I'm asking if I add content from the original website, for example a listing about Norton antivirus, I add the content from Norton website, and of course this is a duplicate content ...

The idea is I don't need these pages to rank, and I'm asking if it is possible to add content like that and add the canonical tag to each page containing duplicate content to avoid any SEO problems with Google and other search engines.

Is it a good idea? what do you think guys?

Just add noindex, follow for these pages.
Canoncal only allow you to pass links juice to those pages. If there's no backlinks on those pages, just adding noindex tag is fine.

I thought canonical tag is used to tell search engines that the content in this page is a copy from the mentioned URL in the tag (where the unique content is)
Can this tag used to avoid duplicate content problems with search engines in case that content is copied from an external website?
This is my question.

Yes sure you can set canonical to external links, but it will also pass links juice to those pages.
Therefore, set noindex to those pages will be better. Noindex mean no crawling. No crawling mean no duplication.
