There is a domain name that I've been watching for some time and it has now expired about a month ago but I can't still buy it.
On the original domain registrar of the domain it says "domain.com expired on xx/xx/xxxx and is pending renewal or deletion".

Does any of you know how much longer is the registrar going to keep it until releasing it free? And why are they doing it?

There is a 45-day auto-renew grace period following the expiration of a domain name registration. You[registrar] have the opportunity to renew it during this period. If you do not renew it, the domain name will begin the deletion process and then become available for re-registration.

The registrar can put it up for auction/sale after 30 days. It must be purchased or released by day 45.
