I read an article about duplicate content issues , i read that sometimes google can index your site twice, for example http://moose.com and http://www.moose.com which results in google viewing it as duplicate content .. and of course the following morning after reading that i check my webmaster tools, and yup, its is now asking me if i own the http://www. version of my site.. as if by magic.

is there a way to stop google thinking that they are 2 seperate sites?

    thanks for any help,

    Panoush

I never faced any such issues. Its perfectly fine to have both versions provided one of it redirects to the other. Don't worry too much about it.

That's probably because you are building links to your www version of your site. Choose any one, either www or non www and build links to one of them. Since your site is redirecting to non www then just build links on non www version.

put the code below in your htaccess file: it will redirect to www version...

    #non-www to www start
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.yoursitename\.com$
    RewriteRule (.*) http://www.yoursitename.com/$1 [R=301,L]
    #non-www to www end
