As the question states, I'm wondering if it's possible to learn how to perform SEO in 2014. Currently I outsource my linkbuilding efforts and pay a pretty hefty fee. It seems more cost and quality effective that I do it myself, but it seems I'm very late to the game.

Sadly I don't have thousands of dollars to throw away or months and months of time to gutter 100 websites as I support myself and live off my Adsense earnings (yes, my Adsense earnings are that high) though it doesn't leave me with much play money.

Are there any UP TO DATE 2014 guides to SEO, I say 2014 as I assume anything earlier probably contains methods which no longer work as well. I know about PBNs but it's not cost-effective to upkeep well made networks when running lower search/less competitive informaion sites so I'm better off with standard Web 2.0, high PR profiles etc and this sort of thing is rarely explained step-by-step. Help much appreciated if you could direct me to PDFs and tools I need etc.

Outsourcing things is a good way to waste money. It may be an effective business model for some, but I have always avoided it whenever possible. There's many pitfalls for outsourcing, but I know many people who do it with success.

That said, SEO in 2014 is dominated by big spenders, myself included. I cannot imagine someone successfully ranking for anything highly competitive without having the money and resources to make moves. Small timers just cannot compete with resource rich marketers.

You must learn the search engine.

Become one with the search engine.

Feel the search engine inside of you.

One could settle for a middle path by outsourcing to an SEO person to do an analysis of the site, including a review of the keyword research, competition research, and onpage/offpage SEO. This could be obtained at a fraction of the cost of the freelancer or service actually doing the SEO work, so the site owner would get the benefit of a third party honestly assessing the site with neutral eyes. Too many IM marketers pick hyper-competitive kws yet presume they are "easy" to rank for.

    1. I also avoid outsourcing because I feel like I'm giving up control of a part of my business to someone, and I need complete control for what I am doing.
    2. I was about to disagree with you since I rank well for keywords with decent traffic without spending money until I read that part about highly competitive keywords.

OP, I don't know of any 2014 guides for you to learn SEO since nearly everything I learnt about SEO was from this forum, but I can direct you to a thread about basic SEO in 2013.

Good idea, any idea of where I can hire somebody to do this for me? It would certainly help if I were to try learning linkbuilding for myself.

Thanks for the guide, but it's all on-page which I'm good at, my issue is with linkbuilding. The amount it would cost to buy Ultimate Daemon, Ahrefs subscription etc would pay for a few months of my outsourced SEO so I really need a great guide before I pull the trigger.

Like you, I target less competitive keywords (from what I can tell, as I don't have Ahrefs), so I totally need a guide which covers creating Web 2.0s, tier 2s, social bookmarks, profile links, anchor percentages, drip feeding... Basically the full works.

Succeeding these days in SEO requires a high level of study as well as a good amount of cash (rich get richer unfortunately).

These days the only thing I feel confident outsourcing is content writing and the most simplistic of SEO tasks (ie web 2.0 creation, blog commenting)

Unfortunately that is the current reality of SEO. Google has reduced the effectiveness of many of the cheaper ways to do SEO. (ie software, spam etc)

If you don't want to waste time, nope then you can't. You can save money by outsourcing less work, but you have to pay for good backlinks after all.

    WTF, really? :O

I did SEO myself (made the whole website plus content too) when I was starting out. When I made money, I re-invested that in SEO services here in BHW so I can focus on other things, which I deem are more important. I learned most of no-BS SEO here in BHW so you can probably do too. :D

Sounds good, could you help me out and let me know which services here are the best and still working well? I like to mix it up with different services so my link profile doesn't look too mechanical.

If you know how to use some tools, you can add some packages and rank well.

It takes about half-year to get basics of SEO - to be able to read SERPs and find out what works and what not. First few months you just don't know what to look at. Always been like that. Then in a few years you will be able (or at least you will think you're able) to predict trends in SEO - what will work in a half-year ahead and what will get punished. Something like that.
About money - you don't need much money. A half-grand or a grand should be enough to start. Just don't buy expensive automation software before you know what exactly you're going to automate. First do something by hands, then, if this works, automatize the process.

There are no guides to effective SEO, and couldn't possibly be. Otherwise all such effective methods would stop working immediatelly - webmasters compete against the same webmasters, not against google. You need to learn how to read SERPs and predict trends in SEO.

Ill give you a very straight answer and this will be the truth. I have been begging on the forum for like 2 weeks asking the same question in different ways and I always got multiple replies like the ones on this thread. Replies consisting of suggestions, with NO direct guidance or pathway. The ugly truth of the BEAUTIFUL IM forum is, you have to dig yourself and find information, the ones who bank here have struggled and suffered, they will not let you have it easy. This is just my opinion.

NO ONE here will teach you how to learn SEO from the start. Believe me, I tried to offer $300 to anyone willing to help. Got no ones's attention.

So just like EVERYONE else, here is my 2 cents, research. I have wasted $3000 in the last month in buying services and websites. Saying that, I have made profit the past 3 months so do not get me wrong when I tell you its been tough. Just 2 hours ago, I found info I needed to get the ball rolling myself, I found something that gave me a clear view as a noob to SEO, a vision at the end of the tunnel per say. Or alteast I think.

You will have to fail and errors will come. Then after that, maybe glory. If not, do not give up.

To conclude this, use the search bar bud.

If you had a way of ranking on the first page of the SERPs quickly, would you give away your method? I would give it away, but only after I was done using it. :)

"NO ONE here will teach you how to learn SEO... I tried to offer $300 to anyone willing to help..."
Of course they're not going to help you. This is considered "mentoring" and it's against Black Hat World's TOS. Very few people here are willing to risk their accounts over $300.

OP, Below points are running in mind regarding your question.

    1) No single formula made available to public to rank in google. Even If there is any google is going to shut that.
    2) My site 'A' could achieve the first page. Using the same methods MAY NOT BE applied to my site 'B' because of various factors involved. So myself can't write down the process to port the methods from site A to Site B
    3) Every single site is considered a new project for me. I try a method on a web 2.0 first to check whether it works or not and try on my money site with more care.

    SO My suggestion is to
buy GSA SER100$ one time, GSA Captcha Breaker , Some Proxies 20 $/Month, A VPS worth 30+ $/month
to build one of your parasite(Youtube video, Facebook page, About-us Page) to get your feet on SEO and taste the link building. Then slowly try some of Web 2.0 blogs. Finally get a backlink from your parasite and web 2 to your money site. it can be considered a basic way to try yourself.

Note: Don't start with high competition keywords. Try moderate and low competition to get start first.
