Say you had a site about dog toys and also had a cool blog about celebrity fashion... You discontinue the fashion blog that has a real good link profile say 60pa 60da 6PR and say screw it and forward the domain to your dog toys website... Can your dog toy site be slapped by Google for that?

Google will not slap you for a 301 unless the domain your 301'ing has a penalty. The penalty will pass with the 301

I have never tried that, honestly. But i will always 301 a high quality domain to my site ,no matter what niche I'm in.

Part 2 of the question would be if I was realy trying to rank for my page dogtoys/bandanas would you 301 the fashion blog directly to that page or just the main domain is fine and it would not matter much?

Appreciate it ;)

If you think, your fashion blog has that authority ,then what is it,that stopping you! . Even if education is not your niche, won't you make a backlink from .edu site ,just to get the authority juice ?

You should do a 301 redirect to your homepage and not your inner page. I've been doing it since past 3 years on my domains and never had any problem.

You will be fine as long as the original domain isn't penalized. However why close the other site? That past link equity and preexisting content can allow you to have another site that you can rank, and you can still link from it to your other site for the link equity.

Plus you could probably get yourself a partner to write the content for you since you already have an established site/link profile.

Won't be a problem unless you upset the penguin, anchors will merge so be aware of that.

this is one of the major affected changes since the recent update also the relevance of your 301 has to suit meaning that the backlinks which point to your 301 has to hold complete relevance and only then you will notice any ranking boost otherwise a wasted effort.

It's much more complicated than penalised domains passing the penalty... if it was that easy then I'd create a brand new website and then penalise everybody above me with 301-redirecting penalised domains to them... Easy? LOL

As for the OP question... if you have such a good website then why would you kill it off? the only reason you'd finish with it is because it's shyte which doesn't have any traffic (as it only has da and pa which nobody cares about). So if you decide to drop it then go and drop it or sell it at an auction.
Just think for yourself... I expect to get to a fashion website through a link on another website and instead I'm looking at a dog's poo... is it really helpful????
