Say someone had an online service they sold for $500. Say I was reselling that service at $5k because of my great marketing skills. I didn't lie at all, said nothing untruthful just was truthful and a great salesman. Was just wondering if I could get into any legal trouble if any client found out I resold someone elses service at a much higher cost. Thanks!

Seems like a win - win from my point of view. Should not be any issues if everything is legit...

There is nothing illegal about that. It is considered "sub-contracting" just need to make sure you deliver what was promised. If you are located in the US people can file a lawsuit for any reason.

Nope....except if you in some affiliate program where it states that you must sell the product for that specific price.

It's no affiliate program, just selling a PR service for a lot more, a great PR service that is worth more I believe than the original company sells it for. No promises, just everything the company promises that I buy from. I just resell for more. Clients are happy but sometimes if someone doesn't think they got enough exposure I just worry if someone finds out I resell at a higher price they will sue me. I don't care about being sued for money, just want to make sure I'm not breaking the law or that it is viewed as me scamming someone because I resell at a higher price.

All you have a responsibility to do is deliver what you say you will. And if it is a service, perform that service within accepted industry guidelines.

This means if you could charge someone $5000 for a press release, and had someone for $5 who would put out a real newsworthy press release that gets picked up by the news aggregators, you will have fulfilled all of your requirements.

If however, you took the money, then had a crappy PR sent out on fiverr that posts to a bunch of press release websites instead of a real PR that would not be acceptable, and the customer could sue.

The same applies to SEO, if you blackhat a site when they are expecting service within google's guidelines, they can sue.

That's called business. Just like Nike sells clothes to retailers for cheap and then they sell the clothes to others for double the price. In the end, the customer gets what they want and both the original seller and the middle man are happy.

Yep, it's normal. If you ever watch the documentary "The Corporation" you see MANY corporations marking up their products as much as 200-300xs.

Like it costs Walmart $.14 to make a shirt then they'll sell it for $40.

Your average person would think that's "evil" but it's really just part of business. It all comes down to the bottom line.

    Europe... No Borders? No Worries!

This pretty much sums it up.

Reselling is completely legal and done by most larger companys around the globe... Every single agency does it! The best example would be the Agency that charged a city 1 million dollars for a logo (well, they payed for a rebranding package....) and received a Logo that looks like it was done on Fiverr. Completely legal as long as the client is satisfied with the product

I think everyone had given you the answer here, but just to add my two cents. This is called outsourcing the work to someone else whilst you take a "fee" for customer support, marketing and being an all round awesome guy. Go for it!

Sounds like you have a winner. You could always tweak the offer a little to protect yourself. Good luck with your venture.

Hahaha thanks everyone! By the way, if anyone has a service I can resell and need clients, hit me up. I don't really have any skills/services of my own besides selling and hyping shit up lol. Apparently pretty good at it :)

Lots of people do this...especially with cheap fiver gigs and link building. Many SEO firms outsource the services of others from fiverr and mark that stuff up for the client...as other have said their is nothing wrong with it...it's just smart business so long as you deliver on what was promised. If your looking for cheap services to resell definitely look at fiverr.

It costs Apple $218 to build the iPhone 5S 64GB model, yet it can cost the consumer $649-$849 to purchase one without a contract. Just about every business uses the technique you've asked about, it's how they make a profit.
