    Hi All,

I'm thinking of starting a technology/movies/TV blog as a kind of side project. Would probably write 2 or 3 300 word articles a week. Do you think this could gain traffic over time? My current project is dropshipping so to be honest I dont know anything about the blogging world, it just looks interesting.

    Thoughts?

Also, would it be a problem having technology AND movies/tv as topics? Or would I need to pick one.

It can still be effective, depends on your article quality. Generally prefer articles with 500 or more words

Saturated market, with thin content ? I'd highly doubt it. If that's your time constraint, you'd probably do better with a youtube reupload thing.

Unrelated topics can be on the same blog, but MAN is it a bitch to try an rank, I mean, it stretches your link building opportunities out, especially when just starting out.

Now, on to the next part: short 300 word posts about tv/movies, hell, that is basically an episode synopsis, not even a long one. Let me ask you:
    1) would you be interested in reading short synopsis of the show/movie? Would you personally find it engaging?
    1) can't give me much meat/potatoes on technology in such a short post.
    2) why so short? Where are my teaser? Where is my chance to learn about the plot, the characters, all that fun?
    2) why so short? Can't really learn much about whatever techie stuff you want to talk about in such a short post.
    3) what kind of monitization strategy would you have?

Personally, if I were to do that, I would pick 1 or the other. I would go for the TV/movie thing, again totally a personal preference.
So from there, I would pick 1 show; with 3-4 seasons minimally.
I would write a long 2,000+ synopsis of each season.
I would then write about 1,200-1,500 per character, per season, not just the character development from that season, but also a brief about what they go through in that season.
I would then write, in order, a short 300 word synopsis of each episode and silo them.
I would then link from season 1 to season 2, and so on.
I would then move on to another show, and build it up from there.

I would monetize it multiple ways.
    Amazon:
    Selling prime membership
    Selling the show DVDs
Selling other shows the actors are in

    PPC:
Adsense or something else, for the posts without Amazon.

That is just my quick 10minutes of thought.

You can try to make an article min of 500 words because google will shoot a penalty to your site for thin content.Write High-quality relevant content to attract more visitors.

Engaging and quality contents speaks at all but I would prefer the word count as the minimum of 500+ words length.

Just focus on making the content compelling/useful.

It's generally recommended you write longer articles because there's more opportunities for longtails, the user may spend longer on the page etc - but words just for the sake of word-count may work against you

Better you can try writing more than 500 words of quality content to your site. IMO, thin content is not effective. Write content that makes sense to the readers as well as keeps the readers to remain more time on your site. For all these, long form content, let's say, more than 500 words will seem good.

You also have to think about visitors, it's ok to just worry about google and forget that most people now use mobiles. A 1,000 word article is ok on a pc but is just a huge seamless block of text on a mobile. You have to consider all aspects as they will just bounce if too much text

After the many Google updates, I don't think you can.

However, it does work with news sites or micro blogs though.

you can do well with a title, and an embeded video..
however, you will need insane high DR/RD for that to rank.
and, if you are insanely close to over optimisation.

that "xyz numbers = ranking" is bullshit.

but, feel free to believe to broscience instead of first hand experience.

OMG.. just skimming the "Google loves" and " I think.. " comments.. I am out, any further questions, just PM me

It can be difficult to do this purely from a time & effort perspective, but I try to stay over 1000 words. 1500 words is even better. Quality, non-repetitive, useful content that will keep readers engaged simply can't be beaten! Especially from an SEO perspective.

I try to never have any page under 750 words. 500 words is acceptable, but not ideal for my strategy.

It all depends on your niche..If your topic is not so competitive you can easily rank in Search engine with 300 words article...But if you choose highly competitive niche like weight loss, blogging etc . then you need to write 1500 t o 2000 words article to bring your Post on first page of search engine...!!!

Just have a look at your competition, create an average from the highest ones in the SERPs. Personally, I would not go bellow 500 words.

I see that news site is frequently publish post with less than 500 words. And it does well on google.

So I think when you write a thin post, you need to do it more than 1 post/day.
