I want to know if it's possible to outrank the YellowPages website for local keywords.

My plan is to make a directory that is more extensive and user friendly that is completely dedicated to one city only. Seeing that my directory will be more relevant since it is all for just one city, rather than for tons of different cities, could my directory outrank the YellowPages directory for local categories / keywords?

Obviously this is assuming I do everything else correctly. Your input would be awesome, as I have a lot of money riding on this decision, thanks.

Yes, you can outrank them, it usually just requires more backlinks to outrank yellowpages initial authority from their domain.

Depends on the weight your new directory will hold. Usually, yellow pages are easy to outrank. Try it.. !

Yes it can be outranked. Many sites already do outrank yellowpages listing.

Make sure you have fresh content to your site. Then have a few good articles, social links like form facebook, twitter, linkedin and then put out a real press release and see what that does to your ranking.

    Yep you can outrank it.

But, you'll need a big, long-term strategy. Don't expect to overtake YP overnight. Building a long term strategy you will be able to overtake them and maintain it.

The key is to build the best localized pages possible. Separate yourself by going above and beyond YP's pregenerated pages. Utilize a few different API's, and some of your own unique content to create killer pages.

Yes, you can out rank Yellowpages.

But who knows how long you will sustain it. Google likes to pick and choose who is on top, in certain industries.

Thanks for the feedback, now I feel like I can proceed with my business as planned. I have been looking for a long-term plan that I can fully dedicate my attention and finances to, so thanks for your input I feel confident I can build something solid now. Sick of trying to manipulate loop-holes for short-term gains, time to build something I can sustain.
