There is a box in the sign up application where you enter your optional pen name. If you read their FAQ you'll see it's allowed:

I don't want my real name to be visible to the public. Can I hide my identity or use a pen name for my byline?
Yes, you can use a pen name to hide your identity. To change your pen name from your real name, click on the Edit Profile section of your Account page. What you enter as your pen name will replace your real name on all publicly viewable pages on Associated Content (the byline of your published content, your profile page and its URL). It will be updated on your profile immediately, in its URL within 24 hours and on all of your previously published content within two weeks.
