    Hey guys,

    As the title said...

...can I get deindexed or slapped for just one keyword or phrase...and still remain in the index and rank for another variation of that keyword with the same page?

Because I still rank for a few of my keywords but for my main one on that page I'm nowhere to be find, and I was last time I checked before this happened sniffing on the 11th-13th spot...

Still ranks for 3 other longtail variations of the same keyword though...although I've dropped in rankings on all of them....

    Thoughts?

You can't get de-indexed for a keyword, if you're deindexed, you're not even in Googles database for any search queries, including the site:yoururl.com one.

But yes, you can get pushed back for one keyword and rank for the rest, especially if you're over-optimising for that specific keyword and it's a money keyword. Keep it natural and gain trust.

So, back again on the 12th spot for main KW! :D

...and the long-tails have recovered to!

Can this just have been a "normal fluctuation" rather then a slap? ...because this seems like a bit-to-fast "recovery" and I haven't touch the site just trowed on some high PR links to that page.

    Yea, I think it's common.

Sometimes, I find what Google decides is that for your KW is better suited for a different inner page on your site. Therefore, although the URL you're trying to rank for has fallen, it has been replaced w/ different URL under your domain.

Yes you can, not de-indexed but a "dance" for a single keyword.

I have one keyword that was ranking on the first page for quite a while for a keyword. I got greedy and started to over optimize for that single page/keyword. Now it's back in the supplemental index somewhere.

I know it'll bounce back as I've seen this happen before. I'm adding a little bit of content to that page, adding some absolute URL and anchor text variation links, and doing a little bit of social on that page as well to help make it appear that the new links were actually "natural".
