Can two of my own websites rank for the same keywords?

AdSense monetized so unfortunately Google do know they're both mine.

My old site got hit by Penguin 3.0 and slightly recovered on its own, many keywords are ranking again. But before it magically recovered I created a new, improved site with a clean link profile targeted at the same terms. I've got onto page 2 but haven't cracked page 1 yet. Is it possible to have 2 different properties I own on page 1 for the same keywords?

My new site is much better than the first but the old one is giving me a cool $400 to $500 AdSense payout each month so I don't want to take it down really!

it is possible if they are not sharing the same ip address, perhaps you may want to use a dedicated ip service or host it on a different server

It is possible, but they both are competing for the same keywords, which is gonna make it harder for the newer domain.

Will rank that website which will be old and have better place in Google while you're doing SEO for the two websites.

I do run both from the same server.

most of the shared hosting companies provides extra dedicated ip service with additional fee of $2-3 dollar per month. Or you can migrate one of your site to other hosting, this can be cheaper for long term.

Yeah, get it on separate IP. You don't want to get slapped twice. Just to be careful.
