Good Day BHW!

I check my facebook account and I was shock to see a message in my inbox from the author of one of the blogs I been milking with.

Here is the original message:

"You have been stealing my posts. You have two hours to delete everything or I will be forced to contact legal tomorrow. I'm sorry, but please, the blog is owned and operated by a media group. you could've asked permission"

So is autoblogging really Illegal?

illegal is to use and distribute copyrighted material , and if you used hes text's ... yeah is illegal :)

Damn.. I was forced to remove my blog. Anyway lesson well learned. Thanks for the immediate response.

Hmmmm isn't it alright to take content and just give the credit back to them at the end of the article??

Yeah.. autoblog got something like "Read the rest here" or some sort.. is it still illegal?

If it is syndicated content in the form of RSS you could easily argue that the purpose of an RSS feed is to be distributed to get the word out and it would be hard for him to actually sue you, let alone expensive.

Basically he would be a petty bastard if he were to as the recompense would not be worth the time.

However, that being said, I would simply take down the copyrighted info as you don't know the lengths he is willing to go to to prove his point. Take down their content, make them notify you of which pages are infringing first.

Don't forget they have to give you reasonable warning, 2 hours is nothing, 48hours is more reasonable. If you know anyone who knows a lil something about law have a chat with them.

Ok it all depends from the blog as a whole if the intention was to abuse the article illegally. There must be a link to the true author, and then its good... Generally speaking...

I did put the link.. something like "read the full story here" or "read the rest here"

Who is telling you guys this crap?
you are NOT allowed to use other peoples content with out their permission.
you can try, but IF they take legal action you have to pay.
it was very kind of this guy to ask the op to remove the content... he could have easily skiped this step. But as it seemes (the guy contacted his hosting company and?) the OP was forced to remove the whole blog.

for rss... where did you see that using ohter peoples rss feed on your site is allowed?
it is not!
you could of course try to argue that they give out their feed to the public... but... they don't do it for you to make $$$ with it. they do it for people to keep up with the latest news.

the only thing that could be okay would be to give out only a piece (one sentece or 2) of the text and thn give a link back to the original content. thats how rss aggregators do it.
