I just don't get it and its 2 AM right now.

Look at this nobody http://instagram.com/kyliejenner . She just posts some random picture, and boom insta 800k likes. Guys, 800,000 LIKES just for posting random pic. Not even work! Some nobody music video on youtube with Vevo logo, BOOM 2 millions views! Where I struggle to get even 100 views after running shitton of bots etc.

Why are American's just so crazy about these kind of things?

Are these the people where the real profit lies in? Like Apple seems to target these people, Facebook was designed for these people, Snapchat was designed for these people...

    I really don't get it.

Then do the same for yourself. :)
Create a profile with smoking hot girls pics ( Get them from download section )
Be active in that profile and keep updating it.
And BOOM, you get the same response too.
But instead of uploading photos or anything funny, we try to promote our products, so BOOM, everyone run away :D

We live in an instant media world particularly in the US. We have high speed internet nationwide and the vast major have smart phones and we are on them all the time. If we are bored in traffic we are on our phones on the internet or we are online while watching tv ect.

Dude, are you serious? Have you not heard about Celebrity Culture, you must live in a remote island somewhere? BTW there are a lot of American sub-cultures and not everybody likes celebrities and she come from a particularly egregious set of celebs, the Kardashian sisters. These get married and divorced every few weeks and keep a lot of priests and lawyers busy. I do feel bad for Bruce Jenner, the guy was a phenomenal Olympian decathlete gold medal winner...The most important thing you should know about American culture is that most people are very tolerant and you can pretty much do anything and you'll get fans. This freedom is missing in an increasing part of the world and I don't need to identify those places :) Come here, the water's just fine.

I am an American and there are a number of cultures
that exist in the US at any given time. That is one thing
that is great about the US. We have some good cultures
and some not-so-good cultures, but it's all part of the
    Great Melting Pot.

    She's clearly not a "nobody". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kylie_Jenner

If it's on vevo, then it's probably from a big music label which should explain the views.

Mmmm generalizations.. Continue gathering your information about us from what you see on tv and websites because that stuff sells. But I gotta say, I'm quite tired of people around the world lumping all Americans into these cliche piles. Yes, we have a lot of people that wil eat whatever a girl like that craps out. I personally wouldn't mind seeing where her fudge is made. Just sayin. But wouldn't you make instagram your bi$#h if you could? Or give a music video a better chance of doing well? I personally like money way too much to avoid making more.

The culture in North America varies depending on what part of the country you're in. In major cities in Southern California (Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Riverside, etcetera), which is most likely where you will find people like Kylie, you'll find that people are generally materialistic, snide, confused, serial-monogamous, and lacking self-respect. In the same cities, however, you'll also find very business-minded people who want to make a real positive impact on their community, although these people are in the minority. I've lived in many different parts of the United States, so let me tell you that the American culture you see on television and social media is the primary culture of the Western United States only, meaning that culture does not accurately reflect the rest of the country.

Hot Girls sell, and its not just the USA or Western countries. I bet she has a bunch of followers from other places too. Isn't Vevo for artist that have record deals? She might be more popular then you think.

Man, I feel so old and I'm only 32.

I remember the week after Facebook bought Instagram and everyone and their brother was talking about it. Then 1 day my friend was talking about Instagram and I asked "what the hell is this Instagram"? I was getting sick of hearing about it. I figured it HAD TO BE something really important or cool and needed to know.

He responded, "it's a place to upload photos".

I said, "what? what else can you do?"

He said, "you can also comment on the photos, it's really cool".

OP here is confused about American culture. Yet it's been 2 years and I still can't understand why what or who the fuck would want to use Instagram. We already have facebook, pinterest, reddit, tumblr, imgur, tiny pic....... do we SERIOUSLY need Instagram? It's 2014 FFS. We should have spaceships on Jupiter by now but everyone is busy uploading stupid photos to a site I can't understand ytf exists, why people use it or WHAT PURPOSE it serves???

I literally just had to read the wiki page and apparently it's the SQUARE SHAPED PHOTOS that's so "unique".

You're telling me a site that makes square photos is worth $1 billion to Facebook? Hundreds of millions of people need a place to upload square photos?

I haven't even logged into my personal Facebook account for 3 years. You could stick my head in a bucket of sulfuric acid, tazer my nipples till they're blue, force me to f#ck a porcupine and I still wouldn't use Instagram. Same thing goes for Vimeo. That's another site I'll never understand. And last thing I heard from 1 of the original developers, guy had a meltdown, built himself a house out of trees, and now lives in some desolate, isolated forest hundreds of miles away from civilization. Which tbo is probably where I'm gonna wind up in another 5 years.

I can understand spamming social media to make $$$. I can understand soundcloud which was a brilliant idea. It was something the world genuinely needed. Artists had no convenient way to share their work. But instagram is truly a representation of everything that is wrong not just with American culture, but the entire world. It's not for socializing, it's not for "fun", it's not for "artists", it's all just 1 giant, slimy, slithering, slutcapade. Somebody please just shove a shotgun in my mouth and blow me back to the 60's decades before I was born. Let me be with the hippies. When things weren't so detestable. When women were natural. When music was analog. When everything revolved around peace, love w/out aids, happiness.... that's where I want to be. Anywhere but this. This global warming, this failing economy, overpopulation, aids, obesity... and worst of all - instagram. :yell:

You're right in 1 thing. You are old :)

You need to change this mentality. When it comes down to "either me or the world is stupid", guess what's more probable. Your rant sounds like "how do these degenerate youths listen to Elvis? Oh, what happened to good ol' George Gershwin?"

Age is in the mind and the worst thing you can do for yourself is let your brain go stale "old dog's can't learn new tricks" style.

Instagram and hot girls- perhaps the easiest way to get a following. Even if you make one of those celeb fan clubs. The other day i saw someone make a new Instagram account for PAris hilton's new dog and he kept replying on all pics of her with dogs. Now people are following that account massively. Twist.
