    I've been looking recently at setting up a web-design company, to get some cash from making web-sites for local companies.

    When browsing templates at places such as template-monster, there are literally hundreds of templates based around hosting companies. Well I know the cost of setting a hosting company would be huge, so I just wondered;

    How exactly are people providing web site hosting? is there a way of doing this so that the cpanel etc looks as though it is your own?

    I can see hosting websites I have designed would be a nice little earner, Im just not sure how people are doing it....thanks if anyone can fill me in.

    I've been using hostgator resellers package without any problems. But I used it for my own projects not for my clients.

    Hostgator really does it and I have a friend who resells her simple autoblogs on ebay for 99 cents with criteria that they must purchase hosting from her. The autoblogs she sells are legit and she makes more money by selling the hosting and then she does not need to move the wordpress sites.

    I was going to start the same thing soon because she makes about $500 extra a month doing that about 25 minutes every day. She only buys .info domains for a few bucks and so she sells the sites with the domains. It really is a good idea. Too bad it takes two months to transfer a domain name after it is purchased, but that gives her time to show stats on the 99 cent auto blogs and she sells them faster.

    To be honest, I think she makes more money than she tells me because she does not want me to steal her idea. I like the idea she has so I am going to go post it now.

    If you set up a website for someone, would the person generally pay you for the hosting, or directly pay the hosting company?

    Whats to stop you charging people for hosting and just using a free hosting service?

    idk but i think there is a bit more to it than that. free hosting has a lot of limitations to it.

    Yes I know what you mean....but for a basic information website I guess free hosting would be fine?

    Here's the thing, I'm not sure why you'd want to actually sell hosting when you can affiliate with some of the giants in the industry and make a pretty decent cut of profit.

    Back in the day I jumped onto this hosting idea and found out I was way under qualified to handle support inquiries etc. and I got little help from the hosting company that I rented the reseller program from. Another words I was on my own...

    So make sure you think it through.

    Interestiong...my only worry is that Im selling websites to people who don't have a clue about I.T. How exactly do you design a webpage for someone, and then get them to buy the hosting?

    I'd love to hear peoples thoughts.

    setup the hosting yourself (get a reseller package at hg) and charge the customer a monthly maintenance/hosting fee.
    Just be up front about it and if they want to host it somewhere else let em
