I'm targeting a difficult keyword and set up my site almost 20 days back. I've been building backlinks to this site (Only white hat) all these days. Today, I opened Google analytics and MS to check some stats and to my surprise, my site ranks #5 on Yahoo but no where to be seen in Google (According to MS - Top 1000). I've also started getting 50-60 UV's from Yahoo. I am sure I could monetize my site if I can rank in Google 1st Page.

Can someone explain why this difference between these search engines? Is my website sandbox'd because I was targeting a popular keyword with a brand new domain?

PS: The site that ranks #1 on Google is not listed on the first 2 pages of Yahoo.:confused:

google and yahoo use different methods in the way they evaluate a sight.
the best one to optimise for would be google as it has the more search traffic.
but getting ranked on yahoo is good too

Yahoo and Google use completely different algorithms for indexing their sites. If you do a good job with your on page optimization it should be equally good for both the SE. Then optimize your backlinking strategy based on what's understood to work best for google. In general following that strategy should help with your ranking in both SE.

Humm what you will do with yahoo ranking when most of the traffic share is with Google...

In my experience yahoo always taken time in ranking, i always had success with Google and MSN easily... Very few times my site got ranking in yahoo in start... LOL i also got one site which started ranking first in Yahoo, dunno why... :)

Anyway discussion about different algorithm or different ways of ranking is true.. you can check yourself... You will find Google, Msn and Yahoo all three got different results... Only authority sites will have position in their ranking across all search engines...

Basic SEO rules are same only few tweaking is needed based on search engine which you are targeting...
