I know this isn't the appropriate place to be asking computer questions. But anyway, I have an Acer Aspire x1700 which has been sitting around for a few years and it needs RAM put into it.

The specs I looked up say it needs up to 4gb of DDR2 667 Mhz.

I found RAM on an auction site it is described like this:

    One piece of memory.

    - Nanya NT1GT64U8HB0BY-3C
    - 1GB
    - PC2-5300 / DDR2-667 (667 MHz)
    - DDR2 SDRAM
    - 240-Pin DIMM
    - Non-ECC
    - Unbuffered

Even though it seems like they might be compatible, I'm not sure if they are all the same. I know absolutely nothing about this kind of stuff.

    Can someone help me out?

Just copy and paste your question to some tech forum like tomshardware. You'll surely get some detail answer.

    [h=1]Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) [/h]
Search newegg for it. It's a little less than $50 and what you need.

first of all, you need to know how many slots do you have in your machine, i'm guessing two, so if you want to put 4GB in the machine, which would be recommended from Win 7 and up, you either need 2x2GB or 1x4GB or do you have any in the machine already?

you figured out that you need DDR2 667 Mhz, that's good, look for that
what you found seems to be ok, but you may want bigger than that

From what I remember of my IT days, some laptop RAM is physically smaller that desktop RAM. So even though it's DDR2, it might still not fit. Best to make sure which size you're dealing with beforehand.

Otherwise, personally I'd go ahead and get me a 4gb stick of DDR2 667 to replace whatever you currently have in there.
