    It's 5 months i'm handling a 1700 followers account.
In this time i got 5.000 followers and increased the engagement rate to 4-5%.
The niche is wedding and before i got the account, it was managed in a very very bad way (no use of hashtags, few hundred of followers bought, same for likes, bad use of captions ecc...).

    What about the old posts?
Shall i delete all the old, low ER stuff? Are low ER posts destroying the quality of the account?

What are you usually doing when a client ask to manage his account?

I delete posts that won't hit my certain like goal. Some say it affects ER

I'm not talking about ER (some are using the (engagement)/posts/followers ).
I'm talking about the quality of the profile FOR the instagram algorithm.
Anyone knows if it's better deleting old and crap stuff?

Engagement Rate would feed into the instagram algorithm as the engagement rate directly correlates to how much instagram thinks the profile is worth 'sharing' to other accounts on the explore page. Whether deleting poor performing posts changes anything, I'm not sure.

A friend of mine, specialized in IG told me to not delete any old post but to archive it.
Deleting stuff could destroy account reputation/impressions.

I would not look towards the past, focus on the now. Revive the account with activity and content. The past is history.
