I so wish I could post the link right now.

Google "battlefield 3" and the first image is the one I'm talking about. Is it legal to alter and use this image if my site includes "battlefield3" in the url?

well these Are the posters which are made for the marketing purpose. so i dont think there will be any problem using them. Because ultimately you are promoting or having a discussion about it.

I would imagine the image is copy-written and can't be used without their express permission. That's pretty much true of any commercial image in the U.S. The last thing they would want is someone altering their image (and marketing campaign) that they spent millions on. Look on the packaged product. Somewhere on there is probably a disclaimer about not copying their product, images, or content.

Alter away. You aren't going to get in any "trouble". The worst that will happen is you are asked to pull the image down.

If you're promoting an aff offer, then a safer way of doing this is to ask the merchant/network for images or permission to use ones from their site.

That way you don't risk being flamed.
