I want to use a shorter version of my domain name under my new logo. Someone owns the domain (the short version) but hasn't created a site, I land on a godaddy landing page that says I can buy that domain

so for example
bestbuysreviews is my domain name
bbreviews is what I want under my logo but someone has it already

If you also own the short version of the domain and 301 redirect it to the main domain would be ideal

I personally wouldn't do it.
The right branding is very important.

I am perfectly happy with my domain that I have now but I don't think it will look that good in the logo itself

If I want to buy that domain, it will cost me €70, which i would rather spend on plugins, content, seo,... if i need to

Of course you can use it and it's your choice but honestly I would not use that way.

Would that be confusing to visitors? My domain name is 3 words so i'ts a bit long
well maybe not confusing on first sight, but people will remember that and maybe search for that but will get to the other domain.

Look at it this way: Do you think the owners of BlackHatWorld would put BHWorld in their logo? Don't think so.

seroundtable dot com has a logo "Search Engine Roundtable".
And domain is different ( S E Roundtable).

But they have bought "searchengineroundtable" too, so in case someone enters it, it will redirect them.
