What are the chances of running into trouble, if I only target long tail keywords?

These authority sites that people are building, are they targeting some bigger competition keywords, or are they targeting just the long tails?

    I'm talking about 100 - 2000 searches a month per keyword.

    Will Google like that?

Lol you won't run into an trouble man.
As long as you do it right, you can right for those keywords.
Just be sure you check the competition and don't get confused.
Some authority sites could be ranking for them keywords purely based on DA, so it'll be easy to outrank them.

    1000th post, yay.

You can target as many long tails as you want. In fact I recommend you to do that.

Most people would make a LOT MORE MONEY if they targeted a bunch of long tails instead of the "Rank for 3 or 4 KWs" kind of things I see posted all the time.

OP you need to do it to get low competition SERP opportunities :)
How many websites will target this keyword "breville juice fountain crush slow juicer" with 260 searches per month and only 47K results in Google?

The only thing I was worried about, is if Google was to do a manual review, and see that you are only targeting these low search, obscure keywords, will they know you are buildiung the site purely for profit, and not to provide quality, which is what Google seems to want nowadays

Nah, I have a lot of sites that target only long tails and some are several thousand pages long targeting thousands of KWs. A bunch of those are 5 and 6 years old and they rank and are loved by the kind people(bots) in Mountainview.

Long tails come naturally. Your link profile should look natural. If you have long sentences and lots of long tail links that don't look natural, your link profile won't look natural either.

You're doing a favor to Google creating contents for this keywords :)
You're doing for your profit (30%) and for Google's profit (70%).

They can improve their SERPs with your contents dedicated to little known Topics

Do those sites make a lot of money?
I am also beginning to target long KWs with low search volume.
And if they're 500 search/month from my previous site the conversion rate is 2% lets say I have 1# spot on google (which from what I have read will get 30% of the search volume/month)
    So I will get 500 * 0.3 = 150 visitors/month * 0.02 * 40$ (lets say I get $40 per item sold) = $120/month
    Huh?
At the beginning before I post that calculation I thought I would need around 100 articles to earn a lot.
This seems better $$$ than I guess. Anyway that's only estimation and if I get #1 spot.

I have few of the sites and even videos linking to those long tails and still getting good day by day. In fact I have even lost credentials for those YT accounts and nothing going wrong, except I get some flagging from people, but since I can't login, I ignore and as the videos are old and the account has several videos, YT has stopped bothering me, same with even some parasite sites, but only wordpress.com goes for the kill, so you can concentrate on long tails without any issue.

EDIT: Just want to say you can out rank everything with anything if you do it right.

As long as by "target" you dont mean keyword stuff/overoptimize, you're fine. You should be targeting a few long tails per post, usually that makes most sense as those are micro subjects, and you cant write 700 words on something that only needs 100.

Long tails are the way to go these days. Less competition and higher converting = more $ for you.

What do you do for SEO for these low competition keywords?

Say I want to add 500+ articles on my site, do I need to do SEO for every single long tail?

I find the best way to make content is to target a very broad topic (say, around 25k or more exacts) that also has many sub topics (1k to 10k) and write a 2000+ word article that covers the main topic, along with many sub topics.

When you target a 300ish word topic, it sucks. That's because you have to rank really well (#1, 2 or 3) for that low volume keyword just to earn a potential 100 visits per month. Far better if that word is mixed in to a longer article about many related topics.
