I'm doing keyword research right now and it's kinda hard for me to find a keyword with low SEO competition. I see a lot of highly backlinked sites with around 500-thousands backlinks.

The question now is can I still go for that keyword? Can I still outrank them?

Btw, I don't want to use blackhat methods. Completely whitehat.

    TIA

    Think from the others pointofview.
Ask Friends, famliy what they vl type if they want to search somethig smiliar.
Take break n do it again.
Have a look at longtail KWS

Yes long tail can, last year I managed to get site with almost no black hat and offsite seo work done, makes about 1-2 dollars a day, but with no investment in off site seo, just writing few articles it is quite good. Unfortunatelly this was more luck than that I knew what am I doing. One suggestion from guy who made every possible mistake in IM, pay huge attention into KW research, I've just spend three months and lot of money on taking site to number one spot to find out it does not generate any income at that position, if I did my KW research as I should I could have now nice income, all because I did not see the difference between "broad" and "exact match" :)

OP, do yourself a favor and buy a good EMD for a micro niche site from one of the services on here, for $11 you can save yourself a lot of time trying to rank a keyword that might not get traffic and/or you won't be able to rank for.

Use that as a learning experience, then later you can do your own KW research.

I'm going to change my plan and go for long tail. That's a nice keyword find Chicilikit. I hope I get my hands on something like that plus do some offsite SEO.

It depends on the niche... Unique content w/ tight on site seo, informational site etc.

Example PM sent. Not selling services but example only to OP because Wakekitty seems genuine and didn't say herp derp 1.5 MIL competition.
