some people say its perfectly fine, others say you will be banned.

another article said to add "affil" on your add and you will be fine.... another person said you have to "cloak" it... wtf is cloaking

Adwords hates affiliates. You have to cloak. Even cloaking can get you banned if you don't know what you're doing.

Adding affiliate links on pages with adwords is no problem at all. But if that worsens your content to advertising ratio, it will do harm to your organic traffic.

Google hates affiliates - seo and adwords both. Making money on google is against first rule of webmasters gudelines - only google makes money on google :)

It was possible. In 2008. They have changed the rules many times, and now you must use a landing page.

If you do it wisely, it can easily work in your benefit. When you direct people to your site, you have more control. You can build a list or pre-sell the users. When I started doing it my income soared (for the same keywords I used for direct linking).

Google Adwords is for those selling their own products and services, not affiliates. I came up with this conclusion due to the way they treat affiliates. I would avoid Adwords for affiliate promotions since there are other PPC networks you can use.
