Can I PRE-rank #1 on Google Local search for a client (as proof before seeing them?)

    Hi guys,

I like to rank my local site to #1 or at least a respectable spot on Google and I have this down pat. I would already go and see a client and offer the site to them (offline marketing) but i want to also offer them google places listing.

The thing is, you need to put in your address, phone numbers and all of that into the listing. What happens if you change those details? I mean, I would make 'fake' details to rank it, but then when it does rank.. I need to change it to the clients real information? Then what happens! Am I screwed?

Or perhaps should I just go in and edit every citation / source as well as the google places to the 'new' address and number?

What are your thoughts on pre-ranking #1 or top 3 of google local listings before seeing a client?

I have been thinking the same my self. But then i thought whats the harm if i actually use there real information? They cant complain its free advertisement while i try and rank high. It depends if you want to take the risk i guess.

You can create a listing and rank it by providing your own information. If you change the name, address, or phone number you may have to reverify the changes, it can take a little time, and may drop temporarily from its spot.

You can also create a new listing with the actual information for the client and you can cannibalize the first one you made.

We have done this a few times, where we have created a listing, shown them, then either modified it or created a new one to take it over (usually the easy route since you can just delete the old one).

Pm if you want us to create/optimize/rank any Gp listings for you. That's what we focus on.

Well, deleting the one that is already ranking and making a new one does not sound like something I would want to do... as that is a lot of time into ranking a new one!

I would much rather try and change the address. I wonder if google allows us to change the address but keep the rankings, roughly, as they were?
