I analyzed one of my competitors with ahrefs and majesticseo and saw that he has his own pbn they are not high PR like PR1-3 mostly 1-2. Some of them are aged and some of them are 2-3 months old.

According to ahrefs he owns around 100 blogs and all his backlinks/articles on these blogs are on the homepage.

Do you think I can outrank him? Any suggestions ?

Anywhere in the world building WP sites.
It's quality, not quantity, that counts. Well... actually both.

Since you're posting here, read some threads about how to build links and start away.

Even if you don't take over that keyword, I hope you also have some alternatives, including long tail keywords to conquer.

Yeah stick with building plenty of decent quality links in the current "penguin" climate, not to say more black hat practices won't work but going down that road leaves you open to being screwed over by the next google update.

Build your own network using free web 2.0 properties, post unique and high quality articles to all of them but no links. There are a good 90-100 of these sites you can use, build some link pyramids back to these using various link sources, let them age for about a month or two, and perhaps post new content to them every few weeks to keep them fresh and relevant. Once they have a bit of age, drop your links in them. The importance with this is you want them to appear super high quality, not to get taken by moderators, and to become highly relevant to your site. Adding photos in helps alot (add tags etc), and if you have a Youtube video, embed them in a post too.

Whilst your doing that, submit some unique articles to high quality article directories, high PR bookmarking sites and also a number of high PR forum profiles too. Keep the velocity constant and you should see some great improvements and hopefully overtake your competitor.

    ^^ Pro help already given.
But I would say, current results are really messed up, & there must be different results before a week or month.

Indeed. Problem is they can never beat quality of custom domains. Subdomain does not get much authority then pages, if you know what I mean. My competitor have like 100 custom domains all on different shared hostings and all of them are pointing to different websites he own plus backlinks are on the homepage.

No one knows how many pyramids he is building to those custom pbn.

But yes, 2.0s do work if you are doing the right way. I am thinking to doing both making my own pbn and 2.0 network (I believe in mass when it comes to 2.0s).

I will buy PR1-2 domains around 10 and host them on different shared cheap hostings. Then I would make subdomains too on them and make pyramids on top of them.

Btw, thanks for the suggestions, thanks given too.

This is what I've been doing after all this time except for dropping links after 1-2 months because I used to drop the links as soon as I built the link pyramid :p

Thanks for point this out though! :)

There is consensus that on-theme links are much more powerful. So it his private blog network is on-theme, I suggest moving on... otherwise you may be able to beat him with on-theme web 2.0's.

There are millions of keywords in the world... I would not attempt it, unless you can retire on the money if you are in top 5 :)

Google can determine the theme, i.e. the category of the page. For example, google can figure if the page is about apple 'fruit' or apple computer. Or if java is s/w or coffee.

If the blog is about 'babies' and the incoming link is about 'insurance', then there is a theory out there that such links are not as powerful as before. This is supposed to be the new way for google to fight spam. So the point is *maybe* you can beat them if the incoming links are not themed.

That's the thing. If you are site is about "blue widgets" and you create a web2.0 (or better a private blog) about "blue widgets and toys", then google will give it a lot of value, as the keywords are replicating. That is the most powerful. I think can get away with themed web2.0 as well, just keep building more pages on the web2.0, and do more themed web2.0's (much easier than private blog ntwrks).

Spam seems to work less now. Moderate link building will always be good.

You should do this, but I personally would apply that strategy to domains that I actually own.
