Do I have to in USA? (or pretend to be) in order to make money with the affiliate program?

I will be using a friend's bank account to get payments, so can I just simply say "I'm in Argentina"? or do I have to lie?

Thanks

No,You do not have to be in US, for the payment, you can choose cheque to receive your payment

Nope you don't have to lie...

Amazon will send you the commission check to your real address...

You can join Amazon associate programs from different countries US, UK, CA to target customers in those countries..

Regards,

and joining from a country, but to target another country?

I want to join from my country, but gain commissions from USA sells

You can join Amazon and sell to US. I'm Portuguese and I receive my payments through check from sales made in the US.

Yes you can join from one country and target another country. When you apply to Amazon it would help if your site has good traffic from the country you are targeting.

I was trying to get a friend in USA to help me with a bank account. I was sadly convinced that I was needing that.

Thanks everyone, the case of @Joslo is very similar to mine.

So, I will just sign up now :)

Simply, join any affiliate you like, promote in US, CA and Uk... and earn your commissions without changing the address or the name..
Join and promote in every country if you can, it's the world wide web :) .

wouldn't your aff link points to a different country if you join country A and target users in country B?
