I was wondering if i can get your thoughts on my website, it is targeted to sell lingerie, and well, I want to make sure it does not appear to skanky/whorish lol.

Let me know your thoughts -- www dot mychristmaslingerie dot com

If anyone has questions on how I created the site I will help.

if you are genuine about selling you have no contact details - tends to put people off.

    Where are you selling us.?

    Hey,

Yes will be in the US.

I just created the site today so I'm not all loaded up, but will be supplying contact details even though it is an affiliate site

I think you have a good start! The first suggestion would be to create a less provocative header. A decent percentage of online lingerie buyers are women and some of them may think this is a porn site when they see the image.

PM me and I'll give you a more detailed review as I have a lot of experience in ecommerce design but can't send PMs yet as I'm a new user.

    1. Make the clickable list lhd side (drill downs) into a menu list at the top of the page - ie more places to see the lingerie and what they can buy....
    2. Correct your permalinks ( wp-admin / options-permalink . php) to /%postname%/
    3. Move Best selling Lingerie to above "Christmas Lingerie" ppl love best sellers and comparison etc etc (they don't want to think too hard)

that should do it for now ;)

make sure your site also has repeat business potential if you are in it for the long term, get your:

"valentines lingerie" links up now otherwise your search terms for xmas lingerie will be gone till dec 2011!!!!!

Try to get some larger images on the front page - lingerie is supposed to be attractive and the eyes are easy on "good large quality" pictures - seem bit small to me at the moment.

See if you can get a plugin to sort the items by price i.e. $25-$50, $50-$100 etc. Make it easy for the customer, also maybe a "recently viewed" box. The site has potential.

Overall I think it's a pretty nice site.

The header is kind of a judgment call on your part. As others have said it could possibly put some women off, but that depends partly on how your promoting it.

I had a similar site last year and it was mostly promoted through myspace and facebook profiles related to a photography website I had. I was doing some nude photography at the time so it was geared a lot toward model and stripper types. For that market the header you have is perfectly fine. It also happens to be a market that really likes this type of lingerie.

One thing I'd do though is prepare the visitor a little more that they'll be navigation off your site onto another. When someone starts off on one url and unexpectedly find themselves on another it can make them a little more wary to pull out their credit card and make another. You don't have to absolutely tell them you're an affiliate, just include a few references to the vendor name in your copy as well. Something as simple as changing the tagline in you header from the "let's get sexy this Christmas..." to "let's get sexy this Christmas... at the Sexy Lingerie Shop". (That's not a real good tagline but you get the idea.)

Also make sure that everything on your pages work properly or redirect to the other site properly. Right now you have a link to a smart robot in the description on the main page that just takes you to a blank page, and the instructions in the sidebar for using the same robot looks like "start here" should be a link but isn't. Little things like that will make some people concerned about how trustworthy the site really is.

Other than that it seems pretty cool. Mostly need to just work on your site promotion to get enough visitors over the next few weeks. It would have been better if you had started promoting it sooner since now is when you need people to be finding you. Work on SEO for sure, but probably try a lot of direct promotions as well like facebook, myspace, youtube, yahoo answers, and the like. They'll all help you for SEO, but will also generate some visitors on their own as well.

I think the header image will be off-putting to a lot of females. Women mainly buy lingerie so I would be trying to attract them. I'd put a phone number and an address (at least PO box) on the contact page, and also add a size chart (what are the dimensions for a each size as your maker defines them). Buying clothes online means returns, so you want to minimize those by giving as much information as possible.

To me your customer is most likely to be women who are looking to surprise their guy with this, so that's the market I would spin it toward and if I was adding blog backlinks I'd be looking for women oriented sites.

Also, just from a marketing perspective, the average size for women in the US is 14 (average weight 162), so you want to add another larger size for next season, otherwise you're losing a good percentage of your potential market.

I started toward a degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and one of the key points that kept being emphasized was that many clothing lines missed many potential customers simply because they didn't make that extra larger size.

There's an interesting take on Victoria's Secret and the reaction of men and women to their advertising on Ad Age that you might be interested in:

You should put some physical address and phone number to prove the business is real. Moreover, those pictures are kind of designed for men no to attract women.

    the domain could be better.....
mid august... its going to be hard to associate christmas with lingerie
I mean if this is a long term thing...

the top banner is too strong...
something more classy would serve better

also take the "sexy" off the sections

    sexy mini
    sexy lace
    sexy robe

once at your site.... they know everything is sexy... the pictures speak for themselves...

focus more on features or characteristics of your lingerie to create sections...

    full sized
    specials
    clearance
Black Hat World top picks ;)

    good luck

I agree with everything Virus1. If you change the domain and turn it into a "holiday lingerie" site, it would be a lot easier to do PRs and get play on women-oriented sites. Also you'd probably get some return business for Valentine's Day, 4th of July, etc. Could be a profitable little niche, but you need to combine online marketing and offline marketing thinking.

Nobody talks much on this forum about marketing specifically to women, but to me that's what you need to exploit with this site to be really successful.
