Can I rank a site high with high quality content, premium theme and a very good overall website but with no backlinks, no seo? Twitter and facebook pages will be dedicated for the site though. Also, I'll post a lot of content, a top notch quality article daily maybe. Is this possible?
Has anyone else on this forum done it?
This is my dream project and I do not want to do SEO on it for some reason.

It's a competitive niche but some keywords may be easy to rank. Also never say never. I'm sure atleast someone would have ranked a site purely with their content strength and no SEO in a competitive niche. :)

Great content will bring you backlinks and authority, but it may take you 6 months to a year to start ranking for competitive keywords.

Try some viral-trending level content.. It will be shared and the links will come..

I'm sure you could but depending on competition it would be more difficult so I don't see why you would want to.

I've already shared the reason. It's a dream project and I want to rank it only on content and social shares maybe.

Actually that's how my articles will be. For example, '30 movies you should watch before 40.' Just an example, the niche is different, but you get the idea of how my articles would be. I guess these type of posts would be shared. :)

Actually that's what I was thinking too. Six months is okay with me. :)

Actually, yes. Good content updated at least three times a week over time will make you go up in search rankings as long as you stay "the authority". My first project was exactly this: an adult niche blog with zero SEO and no backlinks. Within a year of updating it regularly from my own hosted domain, I was seeing 30k or more hits a month with decent rankings. I had a low bounce rate with many return visitors. People were there for my content and it showed!

    The main problem was monetization.

Adult sites, especially when not using SEO to drive sales, aren't easy to monetize. I had it especially hard as I decided to have a female-driven audience, so all affiliate products and sites needed to be respectful towards women. This probably won't be your issue, however, choose your subject carefully with related products in mind. I also tried using ads but flopped. When you're very white hat loading a site down too heavily with ads also tends to lower your perceived authority. Many people will use adblock, too! I got most of my money from donations.

Have fun with your project, but be aware white hat money comes slowly if it comes at all.

That should only work for long tail keywords or low comp kwds like others have already pointed out.

Actually I'm making this site in a competitive niche and keyword cpc are good for this niche keywords. Also I was thinking of only using adsense and that too just a few ads. I want to keep my site as clean as possible.

Also did you do any keyword research? I hope you did not and the site still ranked. Because I'm planning not to do keyword research and establish a brand so that most of my visitors are return visitors.

I jumped in with zero keyword research. I just looked around, found products and images I felt matched what I was trying to do with my site, then posted articles that I had written that matched my theme. I never bothered with keywords as I felt that good content, especially with such an unusual slant for an adult niche, would sell itself. I was right.

After about a year I looked over the things people were typing into my site search and added a little more of those. I never let it take over the site, I just figured that if readers were searching for it then they liked it and wanted to see more. I considered it a "suggestion box" instead of a hard guideline for driving traffic. Even though I did actually have a suggestion box, I only got one email in two years so the search results were very helpful in keeping my audience happy.

My posting setup was two days of images, quotes, or very short articles meant as fluff, and one day for a longer article or review of a product that had caught my eye. The strange part is that I found people were coming for the fluff and staying for the articles!

By the response of 3tails above, I'm feeling quite confident about starting the No-SEO authority website. I'm very happy about it. :) Anyone else here who ranked a site without much SEO and keyword research?

No one? I thought there would be more people here who would have ranked sites just with content and natural backlinks.

My plan is similar for a site I created as I have seen a guy ranking a site with content only. But content is very top notch and also the niche was very competitive. But, it took him 2 years for that. He kept on updating the site with good content.
