If I make a fake download site for movie torrent or some expensive games. Can I get in legal trouble for putting the company's logo on my site? (ie. putting horrible bosses movie logo on my "download horrible bosses movie free" website. Basically using another companys logo/banner on my "free download" website.

Yeah you will get in trouble. Use of trade mark without permission is not allowed in any country.

If you have a nice website the companies won´t mind that you use their logo. I mean you are spreading their word, make free marketing for them.

Of course if your site sucks they won´t like it. To be on the safe side you can ask them. It is all about the question if they want to be associated with your website or not. If they consider it to be a good environment for their logo or not.

I'd love to see what your "may I use your trademarked images on my fake torrents site?" email looks like.

The deal breaker in asking for permission to use their logos would be the type of site you want to use them on. Sites that illegally share movies via free downloads and torrents are detested by movie companies so just discard the idea of using their logos.

You can not use that,it would be copywrite so do not use.
Instead of using first get permission for get your permanent one.
    All the best!

It really depends what you are using your website for. If it's a legitimate company and/or service you should have no problem doing this. Though, from what you said in your post it won't fly if the companies happen to see it.

Honestly though, the worst you will probably get in the VERY slight chance one of these companies saw your website if an email from their legal team trying to scare you. If this happens just take the logo down and move on.

I didn´t realize before rereading that it is for some torrent site :) No, for this type of site you definitely should not use their logos.

You probably want to use the logos to build credibilty and trust. Well, there are other ways. Just google for building landing page + credibility/trust and you gonna find some good stuff.

As a general remark: most important to build trust in your user is not done by using logos and specific trust signals. It is the general flow of the site + if the user knows from the first second what this site will do for him (clarity of intent)

You should not use trademarked stuff at all. There are automated services on the market that scan automatically for trademark violations ( like Thompson Thompson ).

Unless your using their trademark for commercial use, on a website that promotes free downloads, which is what the OP is talking about.

Best case is you could get a cease and desist letter. Worst case you get sued.

Just use a Disclaimer on your site, and explain that all logos used are not affiliated with you at all ! Thats what whole world is doing !

Dont use the logo of a company who has not authorized you to distribute their paid stuff for free.
