Op , don't fake anything, Us is very strict with this kind of fraud. If they catch on you , you will never ever have a chance to visit USA in your whole life.

That is illegal. Fraud of a Government Document. Don't do it.

Not that you're in loss of anything, but it's anyway utterly stupid to go faking legal documents.

Not worth it Anuj. Too much trouble for too little gain. And you will eventually end up with a terminated account when they catch you (and they will). See if you can JV with a US resident and workout a profit sharing percentage...You'll get some trustworthy guys here in BHW...

One alternative is to submit a modified document or "substitute" for W-9, that does not make a false admission that you are a US citizen or that any tax ID number contained on it is an actual one. That way you haven't "submitted a government form" (it isn't the IRS's prejudicially worded form, but a private modified form), yet the site has the form on file it requested. Sites like SEDM.org supply such substitute forms as part of its set of tax honesty tactics. After all, what is really illegal, is holding people's right to labor hostage unless they or companies become unpaid government informants about their private financial dealings.

Two other considerations to note is that the w-9 goes to the company, not the government, so as long as your earnings from them are under $600 a year, they aren't required to file tax reports to the feds about you in the first place. In addition, if you have used a pseudo identity in setting up your account, the form wasn't submitted by 'you' but the faux ID, so if the account is terminated you simply set up another pseudonym account and start over.

I've done $600 many times over on oDesk in the past three years, and I just had to confirm that I'm not from the States, and that I will deal with my taxes myself. Why would this case be any different?

Why would you fake a tax document? Are people really that dumb? The US hunts down tax evaders all the time and wins no matter what.

Over 60 million earners in America neither pay nor file taxes each year. There are only 2200 convictions a year for 'tax evasion.' Stop uncritically believing the IRS's press releases. There is no positive law requiring most Americans to pay or file, the liability is manufactured by the paperwork, that is used to misapply the tax law to everybody. The tax document in question is not being 'faked,' the user is just using a pseudonym ID, or a substitute form modified so as to not be forced into making the false admissions the IRS locks signers into on the standard form.
