I've written articles for my blogs myself... so they are definitely original.

But I have a series of blogs in similar niches. Can I post the same article (substuting certain keywords) across the blogs? Will this effect my SERPs?

    Thanks in advance!

you mean post the content of your original blogs in the other blogs? your original source of where the original content comes from might not be affected but the other copy blogs might not rank so well or end up as supplemental result in google.

Yes you can - I have done it many times. I have sites with PLR content pages ranking in the top 20 for keywords on google AND I took that exact PLR content, spun it and submitted it to blog networks to get ranked.

It all depends on how much your site has. If its a one or two page site I would say no, make it a legit looking site. Have an about page, have a disclaimer page, have a FAQ whatever but you need to make sure you have enough other stuff on the site, then it does not matter.

I have other pages with the same content ranking also, although I do not try to promote them with back links so I could not tell for sure if they are penalized or not. But since I really do not do much and they are in the top 100 (they are just support pages for other sites) I figure that is pretty good.

If you are worried about it, do the easiest rewrite in the world. Go to google translation, then translate from english to spanish to (french or german) to english again. Most of the time this will result in a decent enough article to pass copyscape. You might have to do very minor fixes as the translation is not always perfect but its 10x faster than trying to do it yourself. Additional - if you want to spin the rewrite, you can do sentence by sentence, original vs rewrite version and then get hundreds of variations. Takes a bit more work, but if you gonna submit to web 2.0 or article directory might be worth the effort in formatting.

BTW ... your icon pic looks like a mug shot, love it -

As suggested above using PAR is super easy, also from what I understand using copied content in different blogs is OK, just stay away from having dup content w/i one blog itself.

Yes you can, Just be aware that this is a short-term solution, so rankings may go down, accounts ge locked/deleted, etc.

If you want to hit something hard and fast, it works. If it proves profitable, I would start moving into re-writing or getting fresh content.

P.S. I would recommend you do this only on free web properties and not on your own hosted blogs.

Not when you use free web 2.0 properties. I do this all the time since it's a great way to test out a market/product.

I will usually change up the content every 10 posts or so.

    It works for me great.

I haven't found much 'penalty' for using dupe content...there's just not much benefit - from the SERPS anyway.

On the other hand, if you have about 1000 backlinks generated gradually and (fake) organically then it doesn't matter so much if your content is 'similar'.

Last year I tried a small linkwheel with the exact same content (number of pages, etc.)on each, all pointing sequentially to each other, backed with hubpages, squidoo, angela's links and the usual.

About 1/2 ended up on Google pg. 1 (granted, these were long-tail keywords), the others were farther back. One didn't get indexed.

That's when I stopped worrying about Google!

Never said it wasn't duplicate. I said it is duplicate content, and that it's great to use as a short-term method but not for the long-term.

Where did I argue that it's not duplicate content??

You can also make a macro to automate the process of using power article rewriter with say automate6. This will go a long way in saving you from carpal tunnel
