Is it legal to buy a domain from a previous stablished brand and then go build an affiliate site over it?

I have no experience in buying expired domains, would really apprecciate your insights!

Can I get in trouble somehow?

Yes you can, just be sure not to infringe on their trademark and pass yourself off as being them.

    Thanks for the tip,
So basically create new logo, do not copy stuff from archive.org?

Can I rewrite the content they had in the past?

Also, how long until an expired domain loses its value, this one has 190 RD with a superb backlink profile, but the site has been down for year and a half

    Is it still worth it?

you can buy if domain is available, you may search in google " expired domains "
    You get your answer,
You may also get deleted domain but right now available.

Most of the tools including ahref always give false positive. check manually if the top links are still there. If the links are all good go for it

Even if the domain hasnt been active for a year?
If the referring domains are still there it is worth it right?

Some people will say no and some will say yes, the fact is not every domain is the same and each one will react differently from another one. If you are not spending a lot of money, i will say test the domain. You may have found a gem and saved money and especially time, worst scenario you will lose some money and move on

Checked the top RD manually and 90% are still there, going for it. Not much money spent so no worries

    Thanks man

    Quick question again,

Is it possible to check on ahrefs the historical URLs and their traffic before the domain got deindexed from google?

Yes it depends if the domain is still in the ahrefs database
