One of my client has a Hebrew site and he wants me to do SEO for it. Now my question is - can I get backlinks from relevant English sites? If you know any other strategies then please help me...I just want to do some good link building that should not harm his Hebrew site.. please suggest me what I should do.

    Yes, you can definitely can.

But where are you planning to rank on? If you plan to rank on Google.com then it will definitely be fine.

Get some high quality web 2.0s on the first tier. Preferably done manually with images and videos.

Then blast those on the second tier with a software like GSA. It's only $89, the owner supports it really well and + it's a one time fee.

If you are going to use right keywords and quality links then why it would harm rankings? :)

Of course. But are you going to target English keywords? Or Hewbrew keywords? If the site is in Hebrew isn't it more useful to you to backlinks with anchors in Hebrew? In that case I think you would need to get the ASCII/HTML codes for those to use as anchor text. They usually go like &;abc something like that.

Yes, as I think! Just that you should create high quality content and insert kw inside. In case you dont use web 2.0, you dont need content! Let go to bookmark, social media (G+, facebook, Twitter) and blog comment for your site.

You wanna be careful with that to a new site or you would get it penalized for low quality in quantity links.

If the keyword is also Hebrew, then it will be better to get backlinks from Hebrew sites, some of the platform of the web 2.0s doesn't support on many languages. but you can try social media backlinks

Depending on your budget, you can build Hebrew blogs with content.

As for EN content - you can always add some sort of "author's note" or "about the author" at the top or bottom of article and put your non-EN keywords there in context. Seems to be working for me. Ofc, ideally you want relevant content but I managed to put a home brew beer non-EN keyword in tech article and still get credited.

I was kinda wondering the same thing.
Imagine your Hebrew site is about shoes. You want as many relevant links as possible, so you will want to build links from sites about shoes. Now, if you link from EN sites about shoes to your Hebrew site about shoes (written in Hebrew), is google even going to recognize that your site is about shoes? I mean, you could very well be linking from sites about shoes to a site about kitchens.... In other words, does google directly recognize the language, and KNOW what your site is about, in correlation with the keywords linking to it?

Don't do this! I remember recent Matt Cuts video, who explained, that many links from different language pages have lower value than links from pages in original language - which actually means that it may be one of signals of evaluating credibility of the site.
