I recently bought a domain called pinterestxxxxx.com (xxxxx being another word) without thinking much. Can I run into problems for this?
You can work with it, but you always have the risk of Pinterest complaining about trademark violation. If you want to stay clear of any problems in the future, use a different domain.
I don't know exactly, but 90% yes. If you ever heard sony case, My friend in Indonesia build a blog based on his true name sonyxxxxxx.com, Sony corp complaint to him and Sony bring this to the court.
Is there a way to search for existing sites that have the word "pinterest" in them, i.e.w w w.pinterestmoney.com or superpinterest.org. If a search shows no results, implies they are issuing C&D's to anyone that tries it, else it's something they haven't gotten around to yet. And also, it may not be quite so clear. pinterestsucks.com should be allowable. http://walmartsucks.org/
I guess it only violates trademark only if your website provides services relating to or similar to pinterest. However, it's highly like that I'm wrong. You have two options: Ignore the hazard and move on with whatever you were trying to do with this domain. Scrape your idea or move to a different domain name.
Yes, I just searched by using the word pinterest and I found five sites in the top 10 pages with having the word pinterest in their domain name.
