Can Google HOTPOT do anything for my seo? What impact will it have on google places?

Is it just a way to recommend places i like locally?

If your customer base is primarily out of state, how can I utilize it to be the main Suggested site? I understand reviews but is their anything else?

Is it too early to tell?

    Thank you BHW brotherhood.

I just saw it for the first time yesterday. I had the same questions you posed.

I haven't seen enough information out there to give you a real and definite answer yet. It appears that right now hotspot is primarily being used only by avid reviewers and so forth. I have not seen it hit the majority of individuals yet since you have to post a review in the first place on a google listing before it prompts you to set up your account, and though popular, people still post reviews all over the place. I am watching it to see what happens as well since I focus on GP and local seo.

I work pretty heavily with Places, and here is my initial synopsis....

Hotpot doesn't change MUCH with places. It is really just a new interface/look for "customers" to rank places, kind of to compete with Yelp.

All of the same info from places displays to hotpot. It seems that places ARE hotpot, so to speak. Hotpot is just what the "customers" view now, so it shows them other relevant places that they might like as well. Places is still places, it just can also be viewed through the (horribly named) hotpot.

Really, google is just trying to get people excited, and ranking more places....once again, to compete with Yelp.

The only thing this changes at the moment (from what I can tell) is that google is putting more of an emphasis on places. For example, you can no longer phone verify when starting a new place. Bummer. I hope that changes soon.
