I bought a script and am wondering if a freelancer can sue me/blackmail me for using the script I bought from them.

What ways are there to protect against that?

Why would a freelancer sue/blackmail you with the script, Except if it's highly illegal.

Keep proof of all transactions you have made with them, to prove you have bought the script.

Can't sue you if you don't use the script.
You only have to pay a freelancer if you like the work he did right ?

If I bought the script and am using it, can he potentially sue me saying it is his script?

Bought here means I paid for it.

Well I am sure you have a contract or at least conversation logs that make the terms of your deal clear.

If you hire a freelancer for a project then you often buy the full rights on it, that means the freelancer has to remove sourcecode after you got it and he is not allowed to use or sell it again. It's all based in the terms you two have agreed on..

Lol, you probably never bought the script and worried that he/she will sue you. Cmon dude, if you've got all receipt and proofs, what's there to worry.:rolleyes::confused:

NO! if you ask for something, you have to paid.

Really it depends in what you have agreed with the freelancer.

When I work freelance, I always do my work in parts (iterations), and I ask partial payment after each iteration.

If you bought and paid for it, he can't sue you. UNLESS you have a contract where the coder still has most of his rights and still has his copyright info on it. If he sold it to you but he wants the copyright info on it, then you prolly could get sued for selling it or whatever saying that you coded it or whatnot.
