I got 2 problem childs, and guess what, one is EMD, the other one is PMD (partial match).

    example:

    x74xtraining.net
    is the EMD.
    it should rank for x74xtraining.
If putting the domain as x74xtrainin.com in the anchor, will this cause penalty or over optimisation?

    second problem child:

    couponsnather.com
    PMD.
it should rank for amazon coupon.
any problem here too when using the couponsnatcher.com als anchor?

I really dont know, if G treats that as ONE keyword, or as multiple keywords for 2 word phrase...

some guidance would be very helpful.

atm, I tried to change as many anchors to generic terms (Click here) or Lsi terms and avoid using the PMD or EMD anchors.. but as usual, this could take weeks till I see some results...

you can have more branded anchors without overoptimization

there are certain people like phpbuilt who say you mustnt put your main kw in domain name because you will get a gangbang.

but the only way for google to track if a kw is your brand name or not, is to track if there was search volume for it already before your domain started

i dont think they track that.

Unless you build too many brand anchors, you shouldn't have any problem. If you want your link profile to look natural without over-optimizing your main/partial match anchor, use different version of naked URLs:

    x74xtraining.net
    http://x74xtraining.net
    www.x74xtraining.net
    x74xtraining.net/
    http://www.x74xtraining.net

Also, make sure each one link to the same version of your site (x74xtraining.net).

    1. EMDs are prone to overoptimization since there are no brand anchors. So a link with "keyword" as anchor to keyword.com is always considered a keyword link, not a brand link. That's not true for URL links, using keyword.com or www.keyword.com or http://www.keyword.com doesn't cause problems.

    2. Same as 1., no problem.

Using generic anchors is fine, too, kinda depends on the type of site linking to you. A link from a forum thread should always be a URL link, since most people simply copy & paste URLs, few know how to use BBCode, so a bunch of links from forums with "click here" would still look unnatural. Different story for guest posts or in-content links in general.

I usually just add a prefix at the start.

Or if the keyword is "x74x Training" i'll put it as "x74xtraining" - that is still considered a branded anchor.

You can usually check this from just search variations of the keywords on G and see how the results vary. I bet the one without the space is considered a brand.

EMDs with almost 700 matches on average for a page 1 result... I don't believe in over-optimization penalties because I haven't been able to trigger them in testing. The data doesn't suggest any thresholds... I've seen cases where match counts go above 10K matches on a page 1 result. perhaps it is something off page that is getting people in trouble, but I don't see any evidence for an on-page over-optimization penalty.

You can mix in sitename, sitename.com, www.sitename.com, https://sitename.com, https://www.sitename.com... there are a lot of way to get your name in the anchor without absolutely abusing the keyword in the EMD/PMD. I wouldn't just lean on any single one TOO heavy if it were me, do a bit of research and see what a natural proportion is in your industry (do an Ahrefs on the comp). Also if it is a PMD vs EMD you may have a tad more leeway, though that is just a guess to be perfectly honest. And... as with everything SEO at the moment, it is niche dependent.
