I've googled this question and have never really found a definitive answer to it, so I thought I would ask here.

I have had three ebay accounts in the past that were restricted/closed by them. The last of these accounts were closed at least three years ago, it might even be a bit longer then that.

Shortly afterwards we moved and I was able to set up a new account and have been an active seller for nearly 3 years without issue. I have been accessing the account through a laptop that I didn't have for previous accounts and of course since I moved we have a different internet provider, etc, so I have severed pretty much every connection between myself and the old accounts.

I have an iPhone 6 and access ebay without signing in on occasion to check the value or going rate for items I find at estate sales, etc... but have never signed in with that phone to any account, current or previous. I have had the same phone number for many years and the phone number on the iPhone is one that was at one time used on a previous account. Since I have NO idea as to what kind of information ebay can glean from an iPhone, I am nervous about signing in with my phone to check my auctions or answer questions that my buyers my ask me.

I have read that if I download and use the ebay app that they can keep track of my phone, but what about signing into my account via my browser and thereby avoiding the app?

    Am I just being paranoid??

I would really appreciate some knowledgeable advice on this.

    Thanks in advance.

they can't see what phone number on phone you are using...

but if you call in using that phone, than they can see the phone number called in from. even if you block your number on phone call, they can tell. and if that phone number matches another account, next step is to see name match...your toast.

as long as you don't call in, you should be fine

You could always back up and do a factory reset if you are nervous. That way any info they may have gotten will not apply and you will be free to start a new account without any reservations.

But what about using the ebay app? Does that change anything? The phone I would be accessing with is new and not associated with any previous account, but I have heard that if I use an app that the serial number to the phone will be available to them and I didn't know if that can lead to learning the name that the phone is registered to or the phone number itself??

you can use the app. as long as you don't sign in your old account with the same phone, than you'll be fine. using the app is fine. they can see the serial on the phone, just like a computer IP address. but they can't tell the number on the phone.

only way to see number is to call in using the same number. again, if you block your number when calling in, they can still see the number. so if your phone number didn't change, than don't ever call in.

Once you use the app on a phone never use another account on that phone. The app collects a lot of data and can easily link multiple accounts if you are not careful.
