In the last week I bought a fiverr gig for 600 backlinks. Yesterday I was at position 12-13 for two different keywords.

Last night, I researched my competitors on alexa and found that a lot of my competitors had links coming in from places such as blogger, wordpress, cnet, adobe, so I signed up on each and created a link back to my site using the keywords in the anchor text. I also created a blogger and wordpress free post for each keyword and pointed them to my site with the anchor keyword and linked those two blogs together with a link.

Another guy on BHW said he started No Hands SEO for me yesterday for free and said i should be getting links.

Today I just checked my rank for my keywords and I am now at 20 and 25 position.

My site is 2 years old and i post new blog posts every week - 2. Get decent traffic and make about 5-10 bucks in adsense a day.

DId the backlinks i bought, ones i created or the No Hands SEO hurting my site? or is this just a temporary thing?

Sounds temporary. Its called the goolge dance. You should come back stronger in a few days.

Buying backlinks can always be a bit risky because it's hard to know where they come from unless you are doing so through a reputable company. It's important to make sure that you are not getting lots of poor quality links from what Google considers "bad neighborhoods".

A good way to help avoid some of this risk is by build a small link wheel around your site and have any sort of risky links posted towards the outer spokes of your link wheel so that if they have a negative effect they harm your throwaway site (like a wordpress or blogger site) instead of your money site. Once you know they work well you can then have another round pointed at your money site without nearly the risk involved.

Before you claim links are bad though, make sure you give it a few weeks for the Google dance that Manny mentioned above, even though it stinks to see your ranking drop, sometimes it just means that everything is working and you'll see a great increase after a few weeks.

i just checked another keyword I was number 5 for. I was upset because i was being out ranked by a 4 page site that that was all adsense. i couldn't believe someone else found my keyword! it was very unique.

anyways...i just checked and now I am number 3 for that KW and that spam site is gone from the list. Maybe google did some reindexing last night??? anyone else got advice on this topic??

I'm gonna have to say that's still part of the Google dance for sure. Give everything a bit to settle down and you'll have a much better idea of how well everything worked out for you.

does the google dance always occur when you do backlinking tricks? any idea why you go lower before going higher?

There's a ton of reasons why people have stipulated that you drop before you go higher, so take them all with a grain of salt.

The explanation I give to my personal clients is that Google likes new things, be they websites, links to websites, domains, etc. A lot of the time if you create a ton of backlinks in a short amount of time, Google will get "excited" and rank your site highly for a brief period of time. After this Google drops your site's ranking in order to have more time to review your site and the links, and if everything matches up you'll see your ranking move upwards after a few weeks. I've seen this happen to clients for the first few months of their campaigns with me and most of the time it ends well, just don't panic.

Keep in mind you can also trigger temporary penalties and Google slaps by creating too many links and giving yourself an unnatural profile which can also cause a temporary drop in rank until the penalty clears.

Google tends to throw you around a bit before settling, can be scary.
