I'm in the process of looking to set up a merchant account to process credit cards for my site.

Does anyone have recommendations as to who would be a good one to go with?

    Thanks in advance!

If it's not high risk, try Linkpoint (Cardservice International)...they're not really amazing in any way, but it's super easy to get a merchant account with them and it pays out every day, 2-3 days behind.

Another good US merchant provider is Humboldt (for slightly higher monthly volumes).

Offshore/High Risk try Durango Merchant Services...they work with pretty much all the offshore and high risk banks...also try Omni or Pinnacle...

    Ok

I am the expert on this

    Give me rep :)

USA - porn or high risk ccbill.com clunky but work with affiliates and reliable, does not offer your own page option
UK based - Netbanx very good offers your own page
GS2 AKA Gate2SHop very cheap, nice own page

Ideally you want a company that can provide you with the API for your developers to integrate on to your site so it looks slick.

Worldpay are pretty slick but offer limited modification of your page

Start with those, I have done all the homework they are the ones I use.

Start with either a API or THEIR payment pages, try and avoid mandatory 3d secure if you can, it looses you business. Until 3 D secure becomes mandatory, try and avoid it being integrated.

When your ready get PCI compliance from an expert and host your own payments. But for now stick with a 3rd party processor.

I will also look at your offshore options for my next high risk.

Feel free to pm me I know this shit alot and the intracasies.

30 days is standard 15 is ok, never heard of immediate processing and forwarding of the money.. there must be a charge back suppliment... look out for this as you will be charged every time someone wants money back IE Fined.

My opinion.... Make it look as slick as poss. Use a company that will allow you to choose your OWN mandatory fields IE less than 155 fields. Some companies like G2S will allow this.

    You need to only display

    1 Name
    2 Email address
    3 Card number
    4 ssv code
    5 Expiry
    6 mobile number
    7 postcode

Try and avoid first line of address country etc. The slicker the pay page the better the conversion...

Try and avoid a transfering you to xyz page that is also shit. You can loose this with some companies like netbanx or by adding your own ssl into your pages.

Choose the one who answers your email quickly and who has lowest tranaction rates.... with NO monthly charges and NO minimum transactions screw all that.

Thank you so much for the awesome info skweekly and Debbie. That gives me some good places to start. I'm gonna look at them all right now as I'm setting up the site right now and trying to get all my other arrangements made at the same time. lol

I kinda forgot the merchant account part til I was wondering on the main page. *sigh*

DebbieSprules: Why do you recommend using 3rd party processors at first? Could you tell me the reason and benefits of this?
