Can a person pass a lie detector test if they are lying?

Wife ordered one? You're screwed.

While there are people who can pass a test even if they lie, it is considered pretty accurate.

There are countries though where polygraph evidence is not considered valid in court.

From what I remember, you really have to belive the lie as it's true.

Something like that, I can't lie? I'm a fking great liar.

I believe certain people can. The ones who convince themselves the lie is the truth.

How is that possible? to convince yourself in a lie?

Do you believe in polygraph?
No. There's a reason courts don't accept it as a form of evidence.

A polygraph test doesn't "detect lies". There's no "magical reaction" that your body makes when you lie. It detects "fear".

And a polygraph does that by monitoring physiological reactions of your body. Things like sweating, your blood pressure, your breathing rate and your pulse rate. It's believed that an individual who's lying will show higher readings of these physiological reactions.

And often, for untrained individuals that belief is true. An untrained person lying under a polygraph won't know how to control their reactions. They might get fearful, they might get anxious, they might get uneasy. All of those reactions can be caught by a polygraph and your examiner might conclude that the subject is lying.

That's why someone with anxiety issues will fail a polygraph test if the control questions don't account for their anxiety.

You don't need to convince yourself you aren't lying. You need to prevent the subconscious reactions people make when lying. It can be achieved by some training.

You need to be calm. Not just in person, but at a physiological level. Your breathing rate should be normal when lying and same as that of the control questions, same with your blood pressure and pulse rate. It takes some good training to stay that calm, but it's achievable.

There are people who teach this. Maybe you can find someone and get their help.

I agree

So if you are not FBI agent, you cant pass? How long will it need to train yourself to be able to lie on detector?

You can't easily pass a polygraph test, but you can 100% make it inconclusive, fairly easily.

There are some mind tricks people used to believe in but they're all bullshit.

The botton line is that if someone ordered one for you for a job you want, an inconclusive result isn't going to help you, and if your partner wants you to take one, an inconclusive result will force them to live with a question mark in their mind. Might as well admit what you did and hope it will be forgiven, or skip this job.

Thank you guys for answers...

So, you can't lie on lie detector!!!

If you are creating a company and want to test your future workers, means this a working option.

Or move to the mountains and become a monk yeah :D

It isn't, no. First of all I am not sure why would you need your employees to pass a polygraph test to work with you; but even if you need to, a polygraph won't be enough if you suspect them so much.

Of course you can.

You can lie and get away with it, but not everyone can.

I know as I have seen it proved to me when I was in the military, working in CI ( Counter Intelligence ), when they put 3 people through and all failed, to indicate the machine was functioning and then they put the guy in who had been trained and he beat the box, got the all clear, despite him telling some untruths.

Now unless you are going to be the next multi billion business or running defence contracts, it's highly unlikely you are going to get people applying who are trained to do this for a job.

They only work for “yes” and “no” answers. When interrogator asks you “Were you in your house last night?” and then you immediately ask yourself (without speaking, in your head) “am I x years old” (or any question). So if you lie, but your answer is correct for your own question, then, imho you’ll pass this shít
