Can a backlink value increase over time?

SEO is getting more expensive yoy, and I'm curious if getting links from fresh websites can perform well later.

Most new site operators would easily take guest post at no cost, while established blogs would ask for budget.

I don't believe there's much difference between a backlink with referral traffic and a backlink without traffic.

However, sites with no or less backlinks would surely have less power to increase your rank.

Now, if you get backlinks from a bunch of new sites, can the value of such backlinks increase over time, provided those sites also build good links to their sites.

In another perspective, if the bunch of sites you've built links over years turn to shits due to spam links, can your site be slapped by Google.

I know the volume matters here, but would like your inputs on these 2 different situations?

it should! If that website's authority (DR) increases your backlinks should pass more authority through to your website. But you'll still want to have the backlinks come from the homepage (if possible) or as close to the homepage as possible, if they're buried somewhere on sub-pages 5 or 6 they might not even get indexed, let alone pass link juice

I honestly never tested this, but I've heard people saying that it does matter. But I don't know...

traffic itself doesn't increase your rank (I'm assuming that by "rank" you mean authority, although.... even if you mean google rankings traffic still doesn't increase your rankings either), it's the backlinks (their numbers, as well as quality) that increases a website's authority / strength / DR / power / whatever you want to call it

it can, and it does happen. I've seen several threads this year alone about people losing rankings to devalued links, so yeah, it can happen

Good back link will drive some benefit to you. But that might not be enough. Even if you managed to get some good backlink - do not stop and move forward and work hard to get another one.
Your competitors never sleep

Backlinks with high spam score are gonna bombarded your rankings within one 1 month only !

If the growth etc is natural and these are good, solid links then yes they will increase in value.
It's when you see sites which are shitty DA manipulated and nothing more than a PBN, that you'll get issues.

Yes, their value can increase over time as the site linking to you increases its DA.
That's why it's always better to go white-hat and to buy backlinks from news sites, online magazines or reputed blogs. They are businesses that depend on their SEO, u have the guarantee/assurance that they won't neglect their DA

Two websites with different numbers of backlinks might lead to very different results.

For instance, you are at the mercy of quantity over quality if a website linking to you has many other websites linking to it.

You're hoping that the sheer number of sites linking to this site that links to you will give your site enough authority.

That's a crapshoot.

A better approach is to look at the quality of the sites linking to the site linking to you.

If all the links that your backlink source has are from The New York Times, you're in good hands.

Consider yourself very lucky.

On the other hand, if these were trash or new sites, the value would not be as awesome as you expect, even if the site linking to you has thousands of these sites.

Again, focus on quality over quantity.
