I was asking about their packages/pricing on their radio spots/website ads.

He immediately wanted to know a list of all of my clients. I declined to give him that info.
His response: "Well it is kinda hard to give you mock business cards and promotional info without their names LOL"
-Great but I don't need any of that...

I then asked for some sort of ball-park price range, and I understood it could be different based on the situation.
His response: "Hey bud..we've been in business WAY too long to be operating like that giving out prices! LOL"
    My response: "What?"

He then went on to say how great they are at marketing and would refuse to work with any marketing agency.

This radio station has not been in business for very long, a couple years tops..they also are the least popular station in town, and have horrible reach with their signal.

My area is full of retards.

If I recall correctly Dan kennedy had something on how to buy radio on one of his products. I don't remember as it is beyond my shoestring budget.

Sounds like they are jackasses, since they lost a potential client with their great sales skills.

I'm not too familiar with radio advertising but why would the price differ based on who the client is?

Try calling the individual shows on that station... more often than not they are selling advertising for their specific show.

Often the station sells air time to the show or host of a show and he then sells advertising on his or her show. Those rates are not always set in stone and if you have something of value you can even barter part or all of your advertising expense as well.

I bought something about buying radio air time for advertisement about a year ago. The thing that stuck with me is sometimes radio stations have leftover air space that they couldn't sell. It's always cheaper than just regular air time. Maybe try asking something about that. And contact the individual shows like BTB said. Or go with better radio stations. That guy sounds like he's only got two brain cells left. Better not strain them.

What you described is very common in radio. Most are owned by major media corporations that incorporate all media, tv, radio etc... The whole internet marketing thing was seen as a threat by the old guard and still is. IF you really want to advertise in radio find a marketing company (small one) that specializes in radio. You will be able to spot them by there 1997 3 page website. Now, you will be surprised that they may want to partner up with you if your a online marketer. These guys will get you spots on the radio and help you to not get screwed.
