    Hello !
I own a Cab company , currently gettings pick-ups from other people's websites , with the commissions our profit is close to 3 - 5 dollars per pick-up with a maximum of 10 pick-ups a day which is really low.

I've decided to make a site for my company. I have some experience with building sites and a bit in SEO. I do have a couple of blogs ( a tech blog and funny pictures blog in the making ). I know that SEO is really important for those.

Now my main supplier Gets a lot of orders everyday , but spend around 1000$ a month on adwords. Of course the orders are for 10 drivers not for one. ( the site has no pr , 2 backlinks that's it no real seo was done )
I own one cab for now since we don't have much profit , I cannot spend 1000s of Dollars on adwords. But I can spend A couple hundreds though. Or I can spend on SEO , on companies like SEOsharks for example.

I checked the keywords that I need on the adword keyword tool , and saw 1000 000 Global monthly and Competition Low ( Does that mean it's easy to get on first page ? )

So My question really is , Should I spend on advertising or should i spend money on SEO ?

Also one last question If I can get your opinion on my Domain name. I wanted to get Utahcabs.com but it's taken. So My second choice is newyorkcitycabtours.com , but newyorkcitycabs.net is available. Should I get newyorkcitycabs.net or a .com ? I know that .com being priority on SERP and for SEO is a myth. But Just wanted your opinion.

    Thanks a lot ! Hope you'll help me !

SEO seems pointless, nobody searches for "utah cabs," they'd search by city. Just make sure your Google Places is up to date and if you actually want the phone to ring if you're spending a few hundred bucks consider a mobile Adwords click-to-call campaign.

Utah is not really the place , I forgot to put that it was just an example.

Let's say if it's Newyorkcity for example. Would SEO still be pointless ?

On a low budget like that I'd maybe start with adwords and learn which kws perform best for you. Then as your business grows you can expand through SEO and targeting more kws.

If I had a $500 budget I'd put about $25 into the site and SEO and the remainder into a CTC campaign, you could spend thousands on SEO and never have the phone ring.

I think that's what I'm gonna do , pay for advertising mostly and pay a bit for SEO.

    Thanks for the advice.

Google and Yahoo Local are your best bet. Both of them are free to join, and you can just do a bit of local SEO.

It's probably worth doing a little offline marketing and try to hook up with a few bars/clubs. E.g they call you and for every customer they refer you give them either some $ or credit (e.g send us 10 customers and we'll drop the manager home).

I think you go with both methods.

    Hi,
I have a local car rental business and my site is on top on only the google local for the keyword search like car rental ( city name ) and that gets me around 20 to 30 visitors a day from only google. yahoo and bing doesn't have much traffic but these convert really well. I will suggest you to do a local business listing that's currently the google plus page. my site has no ranking in the search result seems panda or emd hit but the local is still working and i get good business of it. if you need any help you can pm me i can give my site details.

    Thanks

    Adi

I would strongly suggest you follow this framework to spend your budget :

40% of the budget on SEO : Make sure you spend money on SEO. SEO is great if its done right , like some one said you can focus on goolge places and then you can optimize that. Once you reach the top ou will get a healthy amount of visitors and you will fee great about it. Dont spend too much on SEO or in other words dont depend on SEO too much because that way you are exposing your site to a lot of changes in the algorithms.
30% referring sites : You are already doing this but try to keep it at this since it will eat away your money in form of commissions so you can reduce it as much as possible.
30% on campaigns. You can spend the rest on adword campaigns and also if possible a little on social networking sites like facebook and twitter. Make sure you are available on these sites. These sites help in building a brand and slowly you wil notice that you will be getting direct traffic also ( People directly typing in your website in the browser ) . Aim for this.

All this will take time, it wont happen over night and there is a good chance you will fall a couple of times . Remember this one precious word : Patience.

    Hope this helps

SEO for your business isn't the right strategy although you should look at other website which would get a high amount of traffic such as airports or website that offer airport information about JFK or Newark and try and sort out an affiliate program known as pay per sale. Therefore you are not having to worry about forking out for adwords. I have said too much lol !!!! good luck :D
