I was reading on this forum yesterday about some software which came highly recommended and there was a whole thread of people trying to get a hacked version. I went to the site and saw it was only $67, but they give 50% comm to affiliates. So I went ahead and bought under my own affiliate id and effectively got it for half price. I now have the official software and lifetime updates and don't have to mess about on here trying to get receipts and dodgy old versions of the software.

I know its hardly a BH technique but what do you guys think about purchasing CB products using your own CB Affiliate code.

buying through your affiliate link is completely legal:

this good for those who resell books so try to buy those ebooks with reseller copyrights
"25. Can I purchase products through my own hoplink?

The short answer is yes, but ClickBank does not condone affiliates using their accounts for this sole purpose. As stated in our Accounting Policy, "ClickBank accounts cannot be used for the sole purpose of collecting rebates or otherwise extending credit to yourself or others." That is, affiliates should not be using their own hoplinks to purchase products for themselves and then collect a "rebate" check from ClickBank.

Unless an account contains sales from made with 5 or more different credit card numbers, including at least one Visa card, and one MasterCard, our system will not generate a check for that account (even if the balance has met or exceeded the payment preference). PayPal and eCheck purchases do not count toward the minimum."

if you're not buying through paypal:
make sure you use at least one purchase made buy a mastercard or visa card

I had buyed Clickbank product using my own affiliate link before and i get the payment too. Maybe it is because i did a few others affiliate selling too with the same id. Thats why they allow me to withdraw my commission.

I do this on a regular basis. Nothing unethical or illegal about this (but maybe against CB rules) .

My business thinking is that I only promote quality stuff and don't want commission on junk products.
How can you promote a CB product without first taking a close look at it and reading it?
So, in my due diligence process, I buy with my affiliate link ( well not exactly mine but my wife's ID ), and get the % commision back in a few weeks.

For some products, if they are good, I will promote them if they fit in my business model.

Thanks for this post. It certainly helps me to determine what I will and won't purchase.

    Regards

Does Clickbank still allow us to buy through our own affiliate link, I ask because they have changed the earlier statement shown above, to this and use the word "fraudulently"
