Buying websites doesn't make any sense, why do people buy websites?

    Hi,

Most of the websites I see, they are all paid traffic. For example, all the shopify stores get traffic mostly from fb ads, now, if that site were to get traffic and earn lets say $5,000/month on average, how can that site be worth about x20 or what ever multiples. The seller can just rebuild same site and advertise again to achieve same result. Even if the sites that have SEO traffic, the seller could just remove the backlinks and the rankings and traffic stops immediately. Yet, everyone is still buying websites.

    Please make me understand.

    Thanks

Some people just don't want to do the work and rather buy turnkey ready pages. So they're primary paying for the service?

Any seller who sells more than one of the same niche / keyword sites would just be shooting himself in the foot. Who would buy from them, if it was found to be true?

Those paid-for campaigns are usually inclusive of such sales (so traffic can be maintained).

Also, you have identified a niche that many exploit to make money; flipping sites.

Laziness. Is the biggest killer. People prepared to pay for things rather than earning them!

You should really ask those sellers by showing interest in their projects because they would be the best bet to answer your question :)

Alright, I get it, so buying online business isn't about buying any asset, rather, buying true knowledge that saves time.

    /thread close.

When you buy the Shopify store you buy the winning fb ads also. So its not the same like building a brand new website.
Building a brand new store will take you time to find winning ads or maybe never find them and lose money.
Of course x20 its not reasonable price to me !

Yes, I get, so we are buying winning ads also.

fb ads, it should be like 4 - 8 multiples, but if it's search traffic, then 20x makes sense.

Quite bold statement... We bought competitors tho gain larger market shares, or acquire ip etc.

Suppose it is quite a bold statement, I more meant the people who do not buy to capture market share. :) I meant the lazy people who buy because they can't be bothered to do the work themselves. :)

    Why people buy websites:

    1. Scaling an already earning & established business is comparatively easy
    2. Your time investment is significantly decreased when you bought a website
    3. Acquire competition
    4. Acquire brand reputation etc

The seller can build the same website again!
its not that easy anymore. Try running 2 sites with 2 different domain but on same niche or product. Use same seo techniques and everything...you'll know that not both of them performs the same way

Building a new website and scaling an existing website are two completely different skillsets.

Most people i have come across who have built up their own business, have no idea how to scale it and so it stagnates.

Most people i have come across that know how to scale an existing businesss have no idea how to build one from nothing.

If you are buying an existing business and have no idea how to scale it, you probably should not buy it.
