Buying Sites Efficiently

Hi guys,

I was wondering how you manage to buy your sites for flipping without wanting to shoot yourself talking to the seller? Do you just come up with a copy/paste email telling them everything you need and how to transfer it correctly?

So far the majority of the sellers I've dealt with (on DP, so that explains some of it) somehow manage to mess something up along the way, whether it's not including all the files that go in the root site folder or exporting the database incorrectly. Something always seems to go wrong, I think I've had 2 completely smooth transactions that went perfectly out of dozens in the past few months.

I know it's not a huge issue but it does sometimes take 3 or 4 days to get everything sorted and transferred over and I'd like for it not to take anywhere near as long.

Any input you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

This is indeed a major issue, especially when dealing with people from DP.

That said, I tend to never rely on the seller transferring the site. Instead, I have them provide me with account details (FTP+cpanel) and have my own tech guy do the transfer so that I could be sure everything's done properly.

Obviously, some seller are reluctant to give out their login details, especially if they've got more than one site in the same account, but in most cases this works and sellers are happy that they don't have to bother with the transfer themselves.

That certainly seems like a much better idea than waiting for them to transfer the sites themselves. I usually just offer to transfer it myself after they mess it up, but they generally insist on doing it themselves for whatever reason.

Maybe I'll just start telling them to provide me with the details first thing (politely of course) instead of letting them do it.

I give them hosting for life with cpanel/ftp when I'm selling
when I'm buying I get my guy to go in there and back everything and transfer it my server. I never let anybody else do that because as you mention they do mess it up
