I am planning on buying a easily brand-able newer gTLD that ends with .wiki

Now the problem is I can buy it only via NameCheap.. it doesn't seem to be available via any other registrar. Why would that be the case.. I guess they are probably re-selling it to me with a huge markup. It cost like f-ing $1000.

Anyways..it is a long term white hat project and i dont mind spending that much. Now my question is:

They allow me to buy it for only 1 year.. For all other domains.. they allow a maximum of 10 years. I am wary of starting this project and then seeing them kinda extort larger sums of money outta me if the project is succesful.

Like they may ask me to pay up $10000 per year next time.

I wanna get the domain and have it registered in my name for 10 years or whatever is the max time i can once it starts making money. I am planning on shifting form NC to GoDaddy after buying. Is this a wise move ?
Is there like a way to secure the domain in my name in a way that I am tension free of the renewal pricing ?

Advice will be greatly appreciated. :)

Why would they allow you to buy it for more than one year. Do you mean the lease amount is per year?

For $1000 you could buy a CVCV or VCVC Dot Com and actually have people visit your site.
With a renewal rate of $18 and you can transfer it anywhere you like for as long as you like.

    I agree. For $1,000 a pop I'd be looking at a .com.

People don't trust the newer extensions as much.

I understand your arguments against .wiki

    However, I still want it..
Solutions for my questions would be appreciated
