in a situation where you are creating a ecommerce store and have about $400 to spend on links, how would you spend it to get the most long term impact?

I suggest to go for mixed up of all kind of backlinks RGP, Niche PBn,Niche edit , etc.

To get the log term(until the competitors build more links than you) impact need to have strong backlink profile which includes all kind of backlinks.

I would get some niche related forum links. You will get some traffic from those links. You can also build them yourself.

You better try to do some link-building yourself. The links you can buy for 400$ won't do much for your store.

My domain don't have much of a link profile but its a premium 1 word URL changing it is not an option
There really isn't a lot you can do without money these days. You need to allocate a monthly budget for SEO if you are using a fresh domain. Links are part of SEO. It is like saying I want to buy a Maserati but I only have $5000. Well shit, you need to get a used toyota camry with 100K miles on it.

The other way to do this is to go after really really easy long tails and write your own content, scale the site with really good content. You will need to wait a long time before anything ranks, age + topical relevancy can help you rank for super easy keywords, and with time for some better keywords. Your best bet is to build 4 - 5 good links a month (do your own outreach and buy those for $50 a pop). Do this for a year and you will have solid results.

If not, then there really is no whitehat or blackhat, you need to sit down and practice prayhat SEO. Offer your prayers, and be a good boy.

I would invest in ads, and not waste money in links. After you get some ROI on those ads, then proceed to linkbuilding with higher budget.

Invest in ads
Use ROI to increase ad budget
Make a stable income with ads
Continue blogging
After you have enough surplus invest in linkbuilding, and keep your ads going.

Why would you even waste money on linkbuilding on a store you dont even know converts customers?

google ads in my main source of traffic, but i can improve my margins with free traffic, so really trying to get to grips with seo
You already have income. Reinvest it into your business. How come you only have a one time $400 budget?

it does convert, we made around $800 profit last month, but as i increase my bids for more traffic my margin goes down, I would guess the top Serp sites in my niche must be making $10,000+ monthly, judging by the traffic they get

Thank you for your input.

It doesn't have to be one time I'm sure I could spare $400 monthly if I found links that work, but most of the income at the moment goes directly back into increasing my inventory and adding new product lines

It's not a press button launch rocket launcher type of thing. It takes a while for links to kick in. If you do your own outreach you can get 8 links a month (you will have to study what links are worth investing in). In 6 months you should see good results. Study anchor diversification (I would recommend no exact anchors). Don't go for public links (forum links are okay but don't overdo them).

How successful your site is will depend on how good you are at keyword research + content creation (less links to rank all of this as well). Study search intent and how you can target keywords properly. Build 60 to 80% links to your home page and the rest to your more harder keywords (they still have to be easy, but relatively more competitive).

If you get all of this right you should see good results. Be patient. Good luck

Hi @whothefisalex ,

For a new site and especially for eCommerce you have to invest around more than 50% of your profit then only you can get more leads and impressions for your product

With your current budget of $400 you can try these:

General niche 2 months homepage posts
Niche Post with DA-based blogs

These 2 category blogs will help you to get link juice and some results in Google after the posts are indexed, whether you can get decreased position or increased position doesn't matter for now. The main thing is how your site works for the links and how it was crawling

Focus the product link with social shares, banner ads, and sitewide links it will be good alternative for backlinks now

400 dollars still to far low budget mate , Btw spend on niche backlinks , pbns , niche edits and some seo packages well !
